Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?

We have one but we barely watch it. I'd say maybe twice a week for about a half hour. We probably watch it the most in the morning while we're getting ready for work to check on weather and traffic.

Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?

We only have one tv right now which is in the living room but at one point, we did have two tv's and one of those was in the bedroom. We rarely used it anyways.

Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?

Yes we do. We don't watch at night, but I love watching Good Morning America in the bedroom when I am getting dressed and ready. It's also great if we are sick and staying in bed.

We do not nor will we ever have TV in the bedroom. That is our quiet place.

I agree. I like to think of my BR as a quiet sanctuary, and a TV does not fit in that image. Also, we both prefer to read before bed. If one of use wants to watch TV (usually me) I go in another room.

We do have one in the guest room, since we each had one before moving in together.

TV, VCR and DVD player - yes to all! And the TV is on every night when we go to bed - regardless of other activities that we may be engaged in Chat Icon .

Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?

we have always had a tv in our room (DH and I lived in one room in his parents house, so we had no choice) and I seem to fall asleep better with a TV on!

Forgot to add that we have our TiVo unit there as well. It's great when we have movies to watch!

Vanessa is one of those people that must leave the TV on to sleep.

Now she is trying to talk me into spending some of my extra DJ money to get another 50" plasma and hang it on the bedroom wall.

Talk about PIMP. Chat Icon

dont waste your money on a plasma soooo not worth it. you will have to replace it in a few years when the gas starts to go, also they are notorious for burn in. if you like to see the cnn logo while watching hbo then go for it. i would look at an lcd before plasma and a crt 1st gives you the best picture

LOL... not true... not true... not true. Let me give you a little free "information" on the subject. Chat Icon Don't take it personally.

First off... I already have a 50" plasma. I was looking into getting another since I love the one I have in my living room. So maybe I am a "little" biased. But what I am about to say has been PROVEN FACT which I can back up with links.

Are you aware that most plasmas have a half-life of 50,000 hours? That means you can watch it for 50,000 hours before you even see ANY sort of degregation?

I already have a 50" plasma... had it for two years. In TWO years time... I have logged in about 1800 hours on it. Guess how many years of future viewing I have left.

I also know people that have had plasmas for closer to 4-5 years. No picture degregation WHATSOEVER.

Oh.... i also have absolutely NO burn-in. Why? Because I know what I am doing. I will NEVER have any either. Mark my words.

As far as LCD goes... if you are talking LCD flat screen (same technology a laptop uses - like the Sharp Aqos)... thats not too bad. Aqos is nice. But the problem with LCDs are issues with dead pixels (luck of the draw when buying a new one)... and bad "ghosting" when watching stuff with a lot of movement (like sports).

Not saying LCD is bad... but LCD is not for me since the technology isn't there yet if you want 50" or larger. You can't buy an LCD TV at 50" inches. They don't make them yet. When they do... they will be WAY more expensive. I actually also have an LCD 27" widescreen HDTV in my den. I use that for my Xbox and Computer (which are great for LCD cause both of those CAN introduce burn-in... but like I said before... I wont have that issue)

CRTs also max out at 40inches so thats no good. And did you know that CRTs can "burn-in" as well - not nearly as bad as plasma.

And don't get me started on any sort of "rear projection" (LCD, LCoS, DLP, etc).... cause none of that technology can even hold a candle to plasma.

And as far as "front projection" goes. Yeah... big screen potential... but you need the environment to produce that (like a good basement den with no windows) which I do not have right now.

Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?

I was actually considering getting this one.

This is a KILLER deal for 50" HDTV Plasma. Has all the inputs you need for it to be "future-proof" (HDMI, HDCP, etc.)

Absolute KILLER price too. I am still tempted to get it.

Vizio 50" HDTV Plasma - $2599 @ Costco

Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?

No way I am incorrect on the plasma. At least not based on the points mrjune262004 mentioned.

There are a lot of "misconceptions" on plasma technology.

And even Vanessa will agree with me on this one cause she knows the deal. Chat Icon

Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?

I would die without the tv in the bedroom. I also am one of those people who cant sleep without it. I turn it on when I go to bed and leave it on all night long. It drives my dh crazy but he has gotten used to it. I go in there a lot to watch tv during the day as well, for some reason I love lounging on my bed and watching. We save the living room for when we have company, which is never lol.

I guess your plasma is a rather rare brand most plasmas have a half life of 10,000-20,000hrs

However, Industry experience (as reported to us at CES2004) has been to classify Plasma sets as having a “halflife” of about 10,000 to 20,000 hours. That means that in this period, the brightness of the set will degrade to half of the initial value. This phenomena results in a picture that is “washed out” or “tired” looking. This can be exacerbated by the setting utilized by the viewer in setting the maximum brightness, contrast, and color… “showroom floor” settings are on maximum to give the consumer a “wow” factor – but manufacturers recommend that the owner reduce these settings so as to provide a softer picture which slows the picture degradation.

If your viewing is to turn on your set and leave it on 10 hours a day, in about 3 years you will reach the 10,000 hour level. Also, this “half-life” is not a sudden degradation – you might start noticing a gradually reduced picture quality well prior to this arbitrary point.

reading down the article it proves this wrong as well by saying "the consumer might want to consider how they would feel if they become dissatisfied with the picture (and need to buy a new set) in a little as 4 or 5 years."

funny from
Sharp unveiled an incredible breakthrough in flat-panel television today with the introduction of the world’s largest widescreen Liquid Crystal HDTV at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show. The new 65-inch AQUOS™ is the pinnacle of Sharp’s industry-leading roster of Emmy® Award-winning* flat-panel TVs that deliver eye-popping sight and sound experiences as well as unmatched contemporary designs. With screen sizes ranging from 13 to 65 inches, Sharp’s AQUOS collection reinforces the company’s dominant position as the global leader in Liquid Crystal Television.**

and did you know that plasmas are not true hd? they can not display the full 1080 lines of resolution know as either 1080i or on new sets 1080p

from the same article
In addition, as you have read in our other articles – true HDTV is 1080i. Plasma TVs provide a picture down-converted to 720p.

And as far as "front projection" goes. Yeah... big screen potential... but you need the environment to produce that (like a good basement den with no windows) which I do not have right now.
