I think Malverne is very nice. I do not know, but I have heard that the malverne and VS SD are just ok.

The area of Malverne by Westwood is really nice. We have family that lives over on Motley, a 1/2 block away from the Westwood train station. I know that this part of Malverne is in the more desirable VS school district. Very cute area.

That area of Valley Stream is beautiful. My SIL lives on the other side of the park from yor family Trish but she is Malverne. We looked at a house in the Westwood area and it was gorgeous but didnt suit our purposes. I love taking the kids for walks in those Westwood streets.

Valley Stream #13 is a great SD. Some of Malverne goes to that SD. A few members of my Dhs family live there and are very happy. from what I understand the Malverne SD is less desirable, although the houses in that district of Malverne are very nice (with high taxes too) Im not sure why the Malverne SD has a less desirable status though.

malverne's high school is not the greatest. i grew up in sd 13 and did not attend any of the public schools. i went to private and numerous girls from malverne sd went to my high school. i think the schools are good in malverne up until the high school.

The town of Malverne is very nice. However, I heard the middle school and high school are not the greatest.

Liz, my family, well, Dan's family, LOL live in Malverne too, but its the VS school district. Their street is off Cornwall. And its a 1/2 block from the train station, on the Malverne side. In either case, the area is so well kept and beautiful!

Why didn't you attend because of Lakeview children going to the schools? That is the main reason people won't send their kids there. I think it is awful.

If you check out Malverne SD's test scores they are very good.

i am in sd 13 and valley stream, not malverne. i didn't attend because my parents felt the public schools did not give a good education for my older brothers and sisters. my friends mom taught in the high school and would not send her kids to the school or recommend anyone she knew go there.

Re: Malverne

I teach in the VS District on the high school level. Our ELA scores are very high, comparable with much "richer" districts, if that is what matters to people. I also grew up in Valley Stream and went to Valley Stream schools, with no problems, and a high quality education. If anyone wants specifics about Valley Stream or the schools, I would be happy to supply.

Re: Malverne

My DH lived in VS south his whole life, he is one of 5. They all went to private school till HS then to public.
My DH's aunt lives in Malverne(not westwood) & our niece is in 3rd grade & now going to malverne schools, she's doing well & loves it. My stepdaughter lives in lynbrook westwood w/her mother & goes to lynbrook schools. I know they rate very well & my stepdaughter is getting a great education but there are some things I don't love about the district, for one it is not diverse AT ALL. I think there were two non-white kids in her whole elementary school, I'm not comfortable with living in a racial bubble.
Anyway, I think the homes over there are lovely, as I said DHs aunt has lived there for almost 60 years & its a great little town.
