Re: Help settle a grammer debate

Either is acceptable in this case, I think.

But this grammar question reminded me of this cartoon about the oxford comma

I only use it when there is ambiguity so I'd say you were correct.

(for example, "My favorite sandwiches are turkey, ham, and peanut butter and jelly."

ITA. And I normally don't use a comma after something like that. But, I think I'll start.

Re: Help settle a grammer debate

Both are acceptable, but I HATE that comma.

I was taught to write without it so I don't really care what's acceptable, it irritates me. Chat Icon

Either was is acceptable.

I, however, am a fan of the Oxford, or serial, comma and would include it. You're not incorrect if you omit it.

When I list things there is always a comma on the last name before the "and". The only time I don't do it that way is when my sister, my husband, and I sign a card. So it's "Love, Diana, Lynsie, Linda and Bob" because "Linda and Bob" are a couple so I couple them together. If Bob were a 4th child, I would put "Love, Diana, Lynsie, Linda, and Bob."

this

i only omit the last comma if the last two things somehow go together-

like my kids' names

ha im not using great punctuation right now, but i have a baby in my left hand, lol

Both ways are actually grammatically correct. Personally, I would have omitted the comma as well.

Ditto.

Also "grammar" not "grammer". Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm sorry, I had to!
