When you go for your annual eye exam do you get your eyes dialated?
I was just speaking with my mom and she said she only gets them dialated if there is a problem, but I get them dialated annually. She seemed dismayed. So internet, what is SOP with your eye dr?

This is not for eye pressure, it is to see the optic nerves. The eye pressure test is the blue light/air puff thing.

Not anymore, my eye doctor has a machine that can do the same thing without dialating my eyes, it’s like a $35 fee and it’s so worth it to me.

In addition my last eye exam last month was my first one in like 3 years

There is a dilation free test for retinal imaging now. My DH and I were able to do it last year at our appt. I still have to get that stupid shot of air into my eye, hopefully that machine is next at my optometrist

Yes I saw the sign for this at my eye doctor. It's like $49 or something.

Yup. This is what we get. It’s worth the upgrade. We do it yearly

Same here. That's what I do. I hate getting my eyes dilated.

Same here. That's what I do. I hate getting my eyes dilated.
I have an issue with light sensitivity to begin with.
If I get my eyes dilated I'm a disaster.
It's not good.

I tend to get dilated every other year unless I'm experiencing problems. This past year I had a problem twice, so my dr said we will switch to every year now.

I do not. I know my doctor can see my optic nerves without it because he mentioned that my son and husband have the same ones but mine are totally different (apparently they are genetic). Who knew. So I'm not sure why they would need to be dilated.

Not at the optometrist. The eye exam to get glasses we just do a quick exam. But I do go to an ophthalmologist every couple of years and at that time I get the whole dilation and extensive exam.

i used to do this, until we found the cataracts.
not sure what's going to happen from now on. i'm going to have to wait until 2020 before i have a "normal" yearly eye exam since i have another round of surgery planned for the beginning of 2019.
