Re: When will you retire?

I work for the DOE, I bought into a 25/55 program meaning I can retire when I have 25 years and am 55, in my case I will have 25 years at 49 (would be 47 but I took a couple years off for kids). Technically I could retire at 49 and if I could afford it, defer my pension until I am 55.

That said a 30 year pension is better so most likely scenario I will work until at least 54, maybe longer if I am still happy doing it.

When will you retire?

DH and I will both be eligible at 55 with 30 plus years in towards our pensions, but we will see how we feel about working at that time. I have a feeling I will continue past that age, but I like the possibility that I can get out young and make my own decisions.

Re: When will you retire?

I don't think DH will ever fully retire. He wants to stay busy and active. He was active military duty for 12 yrs and joined the Reserves so he can get to his 20. It won't be as much as if he stayed in but it will help.

I'd love to retire as soon as I can but I see working for a really long time. At minimum, when my last kid is out of college (so long from now!). I work for the federal govt, so the longer you work, the higher percentage of your salary you get in retirement if I remember correctly. For example, if I can make it to 40 years, I would get 80% of my salary yearly, which would be amazing. The only problem is working that long! I would be 67 at retirement and really don't know if I can put in the number of years that requires.

When will you retire?

i just always thought I would retire at 65. I can't imagine earlier b/c I cant imagine what the cost of living will be like 30 years from now.
there will always be taxes, there will be house repairs, food etc. Who knows. I am just going to keep working

Hoping sometime between 60-65. DH thinks 55 but we won't get the full pension so he's living in another world.

Re: When will you retire?

Hopefully when my DH retires for him he would be 45 id be 38 lol..He thinks I am nuts but if hes bringing home a good pension and we move out of state I would probably work part time. Wishful thinking I guess.

Re: When will you retire?

I'm 30 and so is DH. Neither of us have even began to remotely figure out retirement. We're not in our forever home yet nor have we finished having children. I don't think we have enough to base retirement on yet.

The plan is for DH to retire between 62-65. NO later than 65.

Re: When will you retire?

I want to retire when Im physically & mentally sick of working, yet young & healthy enough to travel /see the world.

I have too many places on my bucket list that I want to go. The longer I work, the more $$ I put aside to make this happen!

Re: When will you retire?

I'm a SAHM, but DH is planning to retire after our youngest is done with college, we are TTC our 4th and last now, so it depends on how long it takes. We figure 25 years from now and he's turning 32 in August, so 57. God willing, anyways, we are very on track for that right now, but never know what life will bring.
