When did Easter Become the New Christmas??
Holy crow, looking at FB you'd think it was Christmas morning! Multiple baskets taking up whole floors and couches! My kids each got a small basket with a chocolate bunny, jellybeans, M & Ms, a travel art set, and another small toy each. Now I feel kinda bad! Did anyone else not go overboard with the baskets? Is this the new norm?

Nope. Did not go overboard. In my DD basket there was two small toys, chocolate, DVD, bubbles and a small craft painting set (one of those little Melissa and Doug things) I am thinking that it is the new norm. Last year someone on my husband's Facebook list went totally overboard with their kids, including getting them bicycles!

I just came on to post the same thing!! I spent quite a bit for my girls, but it was nothing crazy (books, summer beach toys, cosmetic type things) and I'm seeing pictures of baskets that are intense. I actively refuse to buy into the consumerism that has been placed on every Hallmark holiday, but when I see all these posts, I do have moments of guilt, as if I'm not giving my kids enough. I do try to remind myself that Facebook is the new way of ego boosting, so I try to keep that in mind when I see all of this.

I would get ONE basket from my godmother and Maybe an extra chocolate bunny a week or two after Easter if we happened to be at Genovese when things were 75% off. My parents never gave us baskets and we turned out fine. People are a bunch of freakin show offs. This whole "look at me!! Look at me!!" nonsense needs to stop.

I agree with the attention seeking that people seek out on Facebook...I remind myself that people are looking for validation to replace things they are lacking within themselves (which we usually don't even know about). I know my kids have plenty...not just material things but experiences as well. And I hope that by teaching them that holidays are celebrations of family first and foremost, they will carry that with them as adults.

I've seen a bunch of FB posts too this morning that are rivaling Christmas! I think it's crazy! I'm not against Easter gifts, hell I'm in my 30's and my mom still gives me an Easter basket, lol. I do kinda feel that some people do it just for the FB post..you know, the humblebrag, like oh look how I spoil my kid. My favorite thing about my baskets, as a kid and now is the Cadburry Eggs anyway!

Omg I know!!! Craziness!!! My in laws came over yesterday and gave them big baskets! I feel like a terrible mom. Their first Easter they each got a small toy in their basket since they can't eat hahaha! My niece I put a coloring book and crayons and a book... I feel like I suck! I didn't know it was such a big thing. Now they are going to get even more stuff. My parents friggin bought them a pool! A pool for Easter...I appreciate all they get but I do not want them growing up extremely spoiled or expecting all this nonsense!!

I noticed this too. Growing up we always got candy, a stuffed animal, and maybe new markers or art things or little toys. I got my daughter small toys like flip a zoos and art things like her own marker pens (she's trying to steal mine), metallic pencils and a small chocolate bunny, no other candy. I put little summer socks and flip flops. I saw on social media people go insane. Also I would never post a pic of what I bought my child. It's so odd to me.

the last 2 or 3 years ive noticed its gotten crazy on FB.
Both kids got a big coloring book, and a new toy set for the beach.
Hailey got bubbles and chalk too.

I don't really know too many people with kids so I haven't seen any FB madness but my DD got a small basket with a personalized book, bubbles, hair clips, a stuffed bunny and a chocolate bunny. Oh and a $3 ball from five below.
I highly doubt she'll get a basket from anyone else, her godmother may have gotten her a toy or outfit.
People are insane.

Maybe this is what gets me...my kids have plenty of expensive things, but I would never post every time they get something...it seems braggy and I spend a lot of time teaching my girls not to act this way.

I'm not until easter at all. I got my girls each a plastic egg that came with a few stickers and some candy inside. That's it and it was only bc dd asks why the Easter bunny doesn't come to our house and I felt bad.

It's insane. My girls got a hollow chocolate bunny each, a pack of teddy grahams, and dd1 a DVD (moana - we would have bought it for her either way but figured would do double duty and stick it in the basket), hair elastics, and a coloring book. Cute little treats.

Omg yes!!!!!!! I rolled my eyes at some who were up at the crack of dawn with their kids doing a full on egg hunt and ginormous baskets. My husband and I on the other hand are the parents who tell our kid to go back to sleep bc it's too early  I must admit, I did get my daughter a last minute razor scooter but her basket itself from the bunny was small with a few craft items and some bubbles and a few dollars thrown into some eggs lol. And no, I don't post all that crap on fb... I don't feel the need to... god I hate all those "look at me" moms. I even mentioned it to my husband this morn upon seeing all the fb posts at 8 am :puke:

I don't go on Facebook anymore, but I can just imagine. I got DD and my nephew those pre-made baskets and I filled eggs with candy for a egg hunt. Nothing crazy.

My kids are more excited about the egg hunts at my mil's house and the one we had here. They are so cute when they get the eggs. They got small baskets from us and one from my il's and my bil and his wife. Nothing crazy just cute emoji stuff and an outfit. We posted noting on social media. Only pics of the egg hunt and the girls in their matching dresses

My kids didn't get anything elaborate either and I'm feeling guilty seeing all these overflowing baskets surrounded by more toys, clothes, etc. I refuse to make this into another Christmas.

Agree.
We all made a pact to get kids only a chocolate bunny. Was much easier. Kids get desensitized to too many gifts.

I would never roll my eyes or get annoyed about other people's Easter traditions. So silly. Who cares what other people do?
My kids had 2 large baskets, and GASP...a scavenger hunt and egg hunt this morning at 8am. It's definitely not Christmas, but I only put 2 pieces of candy in their baskets. I would rather a basket filled with books, and activities than candy personally.

See, now it's so weird to me NOT to share your celebrations on social media with your family and friends. It's no different than posting their birthday celebration or Christmas morning is it? Isn't that the point of social media accounts? To share social things? I dunno...I love posting our celebrations on Facebook. It's great when they pop up 8 years later and we can look back at the memories. I also love to share our experiences and holidays with our family and friends that don't live near us. I will never get the people that get annoyed at what people post on their social media accounts about their kids and lives. To each their own though
