Transition to Toddler Bed..Help

We recently bought DD (21 months) a toddler bed b/c I wanted to transition her b4 DC#2 comes (in 36 days). I didn't want to buy a 2nd crib.

Well DH set it up in the LR & DD was all over it; reading in it; playing w/ her dolls in it. She cried when she had to leave & go to the store.

We got home & again she went right to the bed to read/play. Then it was naptime & I went to tuck her in & she said, "no no no" & pointed to her crib.

I tucked her in her bed anyway & shut the door. She cried for 10 min. & then DH said let's go in, I reluctantly agreed.

We walked in & she was at the door & pointing to the ground saying, "uh oh". She had gotten sick on the floor b/c she worked herself up so much.

I felt terrible.

At nighttime i made a big deal & asked if she wanted her big girl bed & she shook her head & went to her crib. She continues to want the mattress on the bed to "play" but no part of it for nap/sleeping.

How do I handle this? What should I do? Am I just rushing her?

I know technically the baby will be in the bassinet for at least 2-3 wks.

HELP! Has anyone had the same thing happen?

ETA: we just got a new car yesterday & she was throwing a fit about not being in my old car. She was thrashing herself around & kept saying, "no, mommy car, no"

I'd like to know this too.

I obviously haven't done this yet, but all I can offer is to keep trying. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Transition to Toddler Bed..Help

I know people do it this early and have had success but I think it's a big transition at that age.

I would just keep trying every day for naps and then again at night until hopefully she feels comfortable enough to sleep in it. Luckily, you still have time to let her choose to sleep in her crib.

Re: Transition to Toddler Bed..Help

we transitioned DS to a reg bed at 17 months, we had his bed in his room since he was 13 months....

when the FINAL transitioned happened, we took the crib out of his room and put it in the new babys room, out of site out of mind.

DS used his bed at 13 months, but usually wound up in his crib until we took it out of his room completely.

he has been in his bed for almost 3 months and out of those 3 months he may have gotten out of it 2x at night.

REMOVE the crib.... and when your DD goes to bed.. pick her up like you usually do and lay her in her bed as you did when you layed her in her crib.
