Transition to Toddler Bed

At what age did everyone move their DC to a toddler bed?

Did you have a reason to do so at that age?

We transitioned when DD turned 2. We did it mostly b/c we are going to be using the crib for the new baby in a few months BUT DD was ready anyway. She wasn't trying to climb out or anything like that; we just felt that she would handle it very well and she did. We really talked up the big girl bed and she has been so good about it.

I still haven't and DD is 2 1/2. Doctor said no rush as long as she isn't climbing out. Its just too convienient for me. I am thinking maybe when she turns 3, just before preschool.

We made the switch when Kaitee was 17 months old. We moved her to a twin bed. We needed the crib for her sister. Kaitee was also screaming everytime we put her in it and she did great in the big girl bed and went to sleep alot easier.


Brooke is almost 15 months and she now screams and arches her back when we put her in it. She will cry for hours if I let her. Tonight we are going to try a nightlight(we think she might not like the dark) if that doesn't work then we will switch her to a toddler bed. I can't take her screaming that way

I waited until they could almost climb out of the crib !!

DD#1 was 2
DD#2 was 3 she stayed out of trouble

We did it at 2 because he was always trying to climb INTO his crib, he was fine and I don't think he even noticed he was sleeping anywhere different.
