when did you transition to a regular/toddler bed?

I just got my recent baby center update and it was about making the transition. Ds will be17 months this week, and to be honest, I haven't even thought about putting him in a "big boy" bed yet. He did climb out of his crib, about 2 months ago, and never did it again, so that's not really a concern. He has the convertable crib, so I can make it a "day bed" with his crib mattress, and then it turns into a full size. I just can't imagine his little body in a big bed by himself. Plus he moves around nonstop throughout the night.

If he's fine in the crib, leave well enough alone! I have NO plans to move my DD to a bed anytime soon. She'll be 2 in May and will be in her crib for as long as I can get her to be.

My son transitioned to a toddler bed at 22 months only because his sister came along. He might still be in it if she hadn't come! Chat Icon

We started Kaitee in her twin bed at 18 months. She sleeps alot better now and doesn't scream like she use to in the crib. We only did it that early because we needed the crib for her baby sister. Luckly it worked better for Kaitee.

Sarah was almost 3 when we changed her crib to a toddler bed. She was very content in there, never tried to climb out.

Andy is almost 2 and we'll have to move him sooner I think. He fell out once last month, he hasn't tried again but I know it's coming.

Ditto!

Although I will be transitioning DD into her big girl bed (real twin bed, not a toddler) this summer before baby#3 arrives in October.

DS is 19 months and I am not even thinking about transitioning him into a bed yet. He has never climbed out of the crib and is very content in there.

My son is 2 and still in his crib, we are going to transition sometime this summer. He is happy in his crib for now, so its all fine.

Re: when did you transition to a regular/toddler bed?

I did at 26 months and it was definitely too soon, but like the other mommies I needed him out of it for the new baby.

I agree with the advice to keep him in as long as he's comfortable in it. We did it too soon and he still has trouble (getting out 50x a night and falling out of it sometimes).

Steven climbed out twice a few months ago, when he was just turning one. But he hasn't since. I'm leaving him in the crib as long s possible. Maybe at some point after 2 I will decide to transition to a toddler bed.

At 26 months, we transitioned Carolyn to a regular "big girl bed" from a crib. Skipped the toddler bed. Had heard they were a waste. It was very easy to transfer her and she had no problems with it.

Re: when did you transition to a regular/toddler bed?

i transitioned dd at 18 months only cause i needed the crib for baby #2. ds was transitioned at the same age because he started climbing out of the crib and it was getting dangerous. But if he wouldnt have started climbing out i would have kept him in the crib for alot longer. Chat Icon
