My mom passed away in 2009 at 50 Chat Icon but my m-i-l is around 53 and is like a 2nd mom to me. She just went back to work FT after working PT most of her life. She is obsessed with working (activities at an assisted living home). She loves having her grandkids sleep over, shopping, traveling, and going out to dinner with f-i-l Chat Icon

Awww, Michelle, honey, I'm sorry your Mom passed away. And it's so nice that you have a sweet MIL, and a great relationship with her!!! Chat Icon Mary

My mom is 49. She works from home as a medical transcriptionist. She likes to read and play games she finds on Yahoo games. She loves spending time with my nephew (her grandson) and her family. And she's an AWESOME cook.

Hi, Michelle!!! Does your Mom enjoy being a transcriptionist? What kinds of books does she like reading? What's your favorite dish that your Mom makes? Mary

My mom is 53. She works like crazy. She is the director of staff development at a hospital. Is teaching adjunct on the weekends. She does like to do outdoorsy stuff. She walks her two nutty dogs a lot in the woods or on the streets. She kayaks, cooks, bakes, camps and does easy hiking (we like to take her on tough stuff and make her cry.. we are cruel like that and she is amusing), she skis etc (she does all of this stuff even though she is totally clumsy and gets hurt all the timeChat Icon ) She knits. She reads. She complains about being too busy and never resting and then finds stuff to make her more busy.

She has the most amazing gardens. They should be in a magazine. She likes to float in the pool in the summer and tries to get us to bike ride with her and complains that she won't. As a consequence.. she rarely bike rides but has a beautiful bike!

That's my mom in a nutshell.

My Mom is 64, works full time and is an OR nurse on a Cardiac-Thorasic team at a hospital on Long Island, she's been there forever.

She takes care of her parents who live down the street from her (both are 90). She likes to read, goes to the movies and out to dinner with her friends, and play with her grandsons (my sister's kids). She is taking lessons at the Apple store to use her MAC laptop she just bought and to get more computer/tech savy with all her new gadgets (ITouch, Nook, digital camera, etc.)

Hi, "Irish"!!! I admire your Mom!! Sounds like heavy duty nursing!!! Does your Mom plan to retire? Our Son wants to get a MAC; He has a degree in computer graphics, and said that's the kind of computer he needs. He had been in an accident in 2005, and has fibromyalgia. He did not know if he could sit at a computer for 12 hours at a time; He needs to build a new portfolio, if he plans to get a job in his field. Mary

My mom is 53 and doesnt work. she hasnt since she got married and had kids.

My brother and I are out of the house now (im going on 32, brother is 27). Every week my mom drives from brooklyn to me in PA to watch my son for 2 nites a week. So monday late afternoon she is here and leaves early wed. afternoon. I work all day tuesday so she gets DS all day on tuesday and part of wed so I can run errands.

She is also my grandmother (her mom's ) sole caretaker which is becoming a job in itself.

Lot of issues my mom will have to deal with b/c shes been taking care of everyone else her whole life, and not herself.

My MIL is 61 and works as a receptionist in a nursing home.

both mothers are computer-phobic and have no desire to do anything with it.

My mother enjoys spending time with her grandson (the only grandson for both) and likes to read on the subject of psychology.

Hi, Diana!!!! What a dear Mom you have, helping you out. I kept our Grandson from infancy to age 4. We really liked watching Seasame Street, going for walks, etc. Chat Icon I understand how difficult it can be, to be a caretaker, and can relate to your Mom. Give her a hug for me!!!! Mary

My mom would kill me if I ever posted her age on the internet Chat Icon. She's older than 30 Chat Icon, and she manages the space of a private company. She loves volunteering for her church--she teaches bible school at a nursing home and for kids, and she helps deliver for a food drive. She also looooves board games, coffee, and (apparently) buying stuff for her soon-to-be granddaughter. I like her a lot Chat Icon.

Awww, Laura, what a sweet thing to say about your Mom, "I like her a lot" Chat Icon Sounds like a wonderful gal!!!! I hope I can soon buy for another Grandchild!!!!! She must be so excited!!!!! Mary

My mom would have been 75 .. but she died in 2005 when she contracted pneumonia after radiation treatment for lung cancer.

Before she died she was retired (she actually only worked for a very short time after college... she got married and stopped. She went back to work briefly in the late 70's/early 80's but that didn't last!). She said her career was household management! Before my father died she pretty much did everything with him. After he died in 2000 she spent her time shopping, going out to eat, gardening, bowling, hanging out with her family and friends, reading and playing games like Yahtzee and Uno.

Jeannie, I'm so sorry to hear you have lost both Parents!!! I love your Mom's comment about household management!!!! If someone asks what I do, I might borrow that!!!! Chat Icon Mary

Shes going to be 63 on Valenites Day... she watches my sisters kids sometimes... and shes aways at my other sisters house because she just had a baby in September...

She drinks hot tea like her life depends on it... dead of summer and shes got a steaming cup of tea next to her...

She knits, reads, spends too much money on her grandchildren, she tries to please everyone...

My mom will be 62 in February...she works full-time as a lawyer in her own practice. She also serves on the board of a couple of different organizations, is active in our Temple (she was just recently the President) and she and my Father take weekly dance lessons and have been doing so for almost 40 years!

ETA: She loves cooking, she is always creating new recipes and she loves to read and sing

My mom is 56 and she works FT as a social worker. She went back to school while we were growing up after being a SAHM for over 15 years.

My MIL is 51 and works in my DH's family business. She works about 20 hours a week or so.

Hi, Danielle!!!! How does your Mom like her job? I think I might have enjoyed being a social worker, but don't really know a lot about it!!! What are some of the ups/downs of the job? Mary

Lori, that sounds like an interesting job!!! What kinds of things do they teach nowadays in health class, and what grades does she teach? I vaguely remember doing some study, involving calories, in middle school health class. Mary

My parents have been divorced for 10+ years. My mother is 66, and retired from university administration at 63. She had been taking care of my 93 year old grandma and minding my DS 3 days a week, but was diagnosed with cancer last spring and has been undergoing chemotherapy.

My Mom is 61. Up until 13 years ago she worked, usually full time. 13 years ago she "retired" to watch my sister's daughter. 4 grandkids later (and one on the way) that is her full-time JOB (even thoug she doesn't get paid).
She loves to travel with my Dad and the whole family. She's an avid reader, takes great care of herself with diet and exercise and really loves to spend time with her friends and the rest of her crazy family (Us!)!!

Sounds like a peach of a Mom!!!! It's good to know our family isn't the only crazy one!!!! Chat Icon Mary

My mom is 67 and still works full time (50+ hours/week). She owns a beauty salon and has been in business almost 30 years. She is single, my parents divorced about 10 years ago. She keeps busy with church on Sundays and up until about a year ago she was the VP of the Korean American Nail Association of NY (a networking group for korean business owners in the beauty industry). She also has monthly GTG's with a bunch of high school friends that she keeps in touch with. Lately, she's been taking computer classes and spends a LOT of time hanging out with my DS (her first grandson).

My mom is 51 and a nurse manager at the VA in Northport. She is currently in Chat Icon with a man that treats her great (finally). She had a midlife crisis in a good way. After my wedding in March she started taking better care of herself, getting her nails done, hair done more, shopping for herself.
She also sometimes gives talks to women who are on public assistance or who are trying to get their lives back on track because that is what she did after a hard time after my dad ditched us.
My mom is an amazing person.

Awww, Alexandra, that's very sweet!!! So happy for your Mom!!!! And, wonderful, how she is helping others!!!!! Mary

Hi, Dina!!!! Wow, she must be a great hairstylist with all those yrs. under her belt!!!! And how neat that she and her HS friends still get together!!!!! Re: Nails, when I took my Mom out earlier today, to eat, she still had her cute little sparkly Christmas trees on her nails!!! So adorable!!! A bunch of manicurists come to Mom's nursing home and do the residents' nails for free. I'm not sure if they volunteer, or if the home pays them. Mary
