repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

And why?

Also, how many bottles (and what sizes do you think we will need?) What about nipples?

And, what bottle accessories - ex: sterilizer, warmers, drying racks, etc.?

We registered today and that was one area where I was LOST! TIAChat Icon

Re: repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

Born Free bottles, b/c of the bisphenol issue. Two 5 ounce, Four 9 ounce. I think nipples are included, I didn't register for any separately.

An Avent electronic sterilizer (we don't have a dishwasher).

A spin-and-store drying rack, b/c it's smallish, space-saving.

No bottle warmer. I think I'll just run it under hot water for a minute or so.

Re: repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

I got Advent bottles. I may exchange them bc of the plastic issue but I am undecided right now. I got the starter kit and then some other extras. I also bought extra nipples in the different flows.

I got a drying rack, no steriler bc we have a DW and no warmer bc I have heard its not really necessary.

It was between Advent and Dr. Brown and most of my friends use Advent so that's why I chose them.

Re: repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

I had the Platex Drop ins. I had about 9 4oz bottles and 9 8oz bottles. Hayley was a big eater so she didn't use those 4 oz ones very long. Then at almost 4 months I switched to Dr Browns because she was way too gassy. The Dr Browns helped. I had 6 of the wide neck 8 oz bottles.

I used to hand wash everything until about 1 year ago when I decided to put them in the dish washer.

You know the Avent sterilizer is for Avent bottles, right? Ours fit the Avent bottles nicely, but really wouldn't have fit other bottles.

I registered for Avents and VentAires, got both, use both. We also have drop in for when we are out and about, but he doesn't love them, so I don't love them.

I don't really worry about the plastic issue, those reports were inconclusive at bestChat Icon

I heard Dr Browns are harder to clean. Do they clean well in the DW?

I have dr. browns and playtex ventair. My pediatrician did not seem worried about the plastic issue. She just told me how to properly clean them without them getting too hot. We'll see if baby even likes them.

I am using the Dr.Brown's again. 3 of my gf's have tried the Born-Free and said their babies spit up and had terrible gas with them and I know the Dr.Brown's were a lifesaver for me with my daughter as far as gas/spit-up. I don't heat in the microwave.

Oh no, really? I read that other brands fit well in there.

ETA: this is good to know, thank you. I might just ditch the sterilizer.

I think people have said they have shoved other bottles in there, but it really is made for their own bottles. I know my VentAire standards would have never fit in there.Chat Icon

Same here. I also bought Medela bottles because they are bisphenol free too. I am going to see which ones the baby likes better.

Re: repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

I bought the avent bottles for my son and he had terrible gas.

I switched over to the Dr. Brown's bottles and it has helped him a lot. I plan on using the Dr. Brown's bottles with my second one also.

I have about 20 avent bottles that I will never use. Oh well!!!

Re: repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

i have two avent bottles and registered for a few born free bottles. i bought a few good bottle scrub brushes and a drying rack. i plan on washing them and then sterilizing them in a pot of boiling water. i didn't buy too much bottle stuff because as of now i plan to breast feed, so i'm not sure what kind of equipment i will end up needing...

Its not that they are hard to clean its just a few pieces. I used to soak the nipples, the stoppper and the straw in warm soapy water. Now in the dish washer I put the straw part and the stopper in a plastic basket on the top shelf and they tet clean.

Re: repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

Dr. Brown's bottles were a godsend for our gassy daughter - and they dont take any more time to clean than any other bottle. I highly recommend them. We clean them by hand in warm water rather than use the dishwasher, because of the issue with plastic bottles.

We went with Born Free bottles, a brush, and I will sterilize them in the Avent IQ24, which accommodates many different bottles. I got mostly 9 oz. but I think about 6, 5 oz. Seems like so much but people keep telling me to have enough for at least a days worth (or a little less).

We use the drop ins. We registered for Avent, Ventaire and Dropins. DS hates the others so we use the dropins exclusively. I have the starter set and then I bought a few of the bottles separtely...the 8 ounce ones. I boil the nipples and handwash the rest of the bottle, so no need for the steralizer. IMO, you dont need the warmer either...hot water works just fine.

i had gotten the avents but returned them for the playtex drop-ins both because my cousin said they were much better for gas and then the bisphenol issue came up.

Re: repost from parenting - what brand of bottles did you register for?

I registered for Born Free and Dr. Brown's. If the Born Free agree with my baby, I will use them. If not, I will do my best not to think about the plastic issue and I'll move on to Dr. Brown's.
