I don't think I have showered enough after watching that
I do think she is trying to be cool and doing her own thing but she looks ridiculous and awkward. I thought she looked like she didn't know how to dance

I know I'm not 19 anymore but man, her performance was off the wall! SHE is off the wall lately. Does anyone else see a future porn star here. She is about to be Amanda Bynes coo-coo! She is clearly on a lot of drugs and based on her music, isn't trying to hide it. Her parents must be so proud. Man am I afraid for what things will be like when my DD is a teenager.

at the bottom of this screen, there are older threads on Miley, one has to wonder, what the HECK happened? We get it your all grown up... but into WHAT ??? Her video that was ok was 'Cant be Tamed'
I think i will stick with being selective w TV shows, or mediums (netflix hulu etc) where the user controls what is viewed..... and these days... there aint much

I wish she was.
It's worse.
She is under the control of a team of people thinking this is a good idea for her. Not caring about her long term image, but cashing in on the "Miley gone wild and crazy" image right now.
She has stated in many interviews that without her career, she is "nothing". Literally.
She has been groomed from a young age to be adored by the public and be famous at any cost.
Unlike Madonna, who was an adult when she achieved fame and was a savvy business woman in charge of her career decisions, Miley is not an empowered woman. She is so devoid of a self that if they told her she'd be dressed like an ape and throw her own shitt around, I think she would because THEY said to and without her career she is nothing.
My hope is when her shelf life is over she finds herself, carves out a dignified adulthood with her gajillions of dollars and doesn't continue this path. That's when the drugs will come.... If she feels like nothing when her career is really done.

but again, one has to ask, where have her parents been in all this? i mean, if the poor girl thinks she's nothing without her career, some of that blame has to lie with her parents for not instilling a solid sense of self in her. I have no idea what its like to grow up as a celebrity, but i can only hope that someone around her is a positive influence.
She's an adult now right? so, she'll find out the hard way that life isn't all sunshine and roses and one day she'll put on her big girl panties (non latex) and have to grow up. Until then, she lives a care free celebrity pandered life.

Honestly I think what separated her performance from other past scandalous performances was that she wasn't sexy. It wasn't just that the former Disney star is now shocking everyone by being sexy. It was that the former Disney star tried to be sexy but came off as nasty instead. She needs to put the tongue away and she needs a new style advisors.

I agree with most except that she is under a team of people who think its a good idea for her. Its actually the opposite-the bigger the star gets, the more control most artists get-people around them are yes people--doing and agreeing with whatever the artist wants--sad really.

I didn't think it was that bad. I just heard this song for the first time a few days ago (I must live under a rock ) and I just don't like the song. The lyrics bother me more than the video (looks like Victoria's Secret sans bras). The lyrics "I know you want it" just suck and bother me. The video goes along with Miley's performance and that foam finger. The outfit looked awful on her.
The bottom line is that it gathered attention like Madonna in the 80s or Madonna with Britney. And you know, it worked. Everyone is talking about it.
ETA: Plus, I just see Jason Seaver and Beetlejuice and Stephen Tyler all in one.
