Healthcare costs

Just found out our premiums are going up 25%! Just curious how much others are contributing to their employer-sponsored plans.

Re: Healthcare costs

That's cheap! My company had a meeting yesterday. Singles are going up 37%, married with spouse up 48% and married with family going up 32%.

Re: Healthcare costs

In my experience $80 a week is a pretty low number, unless you aren't talking about a family plan.

At my previous company a family plan was $300+ a pay period (every two weeks), I know a lot of companies that charge about $300 bi-weekly.

My BIL would have to pay $900 a month to get family coverage, so they go without insurance. I know a lot of people who cannot afford to buy insurance through their employee but make too much to qualify for healthy NY so they have to go without.

Right now we pay $200 bi weekly for pretty crappy insurance, high deductible and then percentages after the deductible is met (rather than co-pays).

Re: Healthcare costs

i get paid biweekly so every two weeks for a family plan i pay $120. (so $240 a month) its a $20 copay for the drs visit and general blood work if we need something else like a particular test outside of general blood work its another $20pt.

edit: this is through work (state) and dh at his private job it cost the same amount BUT only $20 flat copay but the rates were going up and it would of be an extra $40 a month to stay on.

Re: Healthcare costs

We are covered through DH's benefits -- and it costs less than $10 a month for our family plan.

I am VERY appreciative of those benefits, especially when I read on here how much people have to pay out of pocket! Chat Icon

Re: Healthcare costs

we don't pay anything, but we have a $7k dd, of wich dh's firm pays half.

so we are responsble for $3500 a year, or almost $300/month.

not bad considering I would have been paying double that for my family plan with the federal govt. Chat Icon

Re: Healthcare costs

I pay $45/week for DH and I, including PPO, dental and vision. Family is in the low $50's/week.

ETA: DH's insurance is paid for 100% by his company, but it's very crappy benefits, so he is double covered w/mine.

We don't pay anything toward the premium for our family plan. We also don't have a deductible. Chat Icon
DH is a union carpenter and he has great benefits (better than mine and I work for the fed!).

I am not sure it's going to last much longer, since these types of benefits seem unsustainable in this economy, but we're very grateful for them, in the meantime. I wish everyone had access to free healthcare but that's a whole other post.

We do have $20 co-pays for office visits, prescriptions, etc.

Re: Healthcare costs

Luckily, we don't contribute anything.

DH's company covers 100% of family plan. Plus the are putting $1250 into a HSA to go towards the deductible.

Re: Healthcare costs

My company's rates sky-rocketed also. Luckily, I went on DHs plan last January and my company pays the difference for me to be added to it. So we pay something like $100 per month for family coverage. We're incredibly lucky. Family plans with my company are around $1k per month.Chat Icon

I am very, very lucky - my plan covers me, my DH and two kids, and we don't contribute anything, but we do have small deductibles for office visits and meds.

Re: Healthcare costs

We have primary and secondary coverage, worthwhile for us to keep since we are both older.
Me : $100 per month to cover DH and me.
DH : $26.34 every two weeks to cover the both of us.
So, total $152.68 per month.
That includes dental and vision coverage too.

Ditto for my husband's job. 400 a month for the entire family for a really comprehensive plan.

My DH is self employed, so we pay more than 1000 a month for the two of us. It goes up another 200 when the baby comes. We also have a 3500 deductible.

Re: Healthcare costs

We have insurance through DH, we don't pay anything for the plan we have. There is no deductible just to go to the dr's office - there is a $500 deductible out of network.
