My gut reaction is never, but I think maybe I'd consider it around 13? What do I know though...my oldest is only turning 8 next month. As for the tablet thing, as far as I'm concerned right now--and I know, I know never say never--but my kid will never have a device with Internet access in their rooms! Alright, maybe after HS graduation with that. Chat Icon

Some TVs and all gaming units have Internet access. So do DVD players, iPods, kindles, etc. Its a scary thought, but our kids are gonna grow up with Internet access everywhere. Chat Icon

I think there are ways on the iPad to lock certain apps, so really they can only get into Netflix Kids, or whatever you want them to be able to open.

DD has had a small TV in her room since she was 1. She's 2 now. We turn on sesame street in the morning and watch an episode of Olivia at bed time.

I got one when I turned 13. I personally wouldn't do it before that age. I lean towards thinking I may say they can never have one but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Never. I never had a tv in my room till I was an adult. I don't want them relying on the tv to put them to sleep.

When they are old enough to buy it themselves!

We don't ever plan to. Our girls do have their own playroom, where a tv is.

my parents let me have one when I could purchase it on my own. I saved $100 and bought a 13 inch TV in 9th grade. seems fair to me.

This is my plan for my kids.

I don't think it's all that bad at all

I got when at 10 and it was the best gift ever! I think I cried.

I loved it... I would watch my shows and would have it on during homework. Grades never suffered.

I would watch Buffy the vampire slayer and Dawson's creek and talk to my friends about it the next day. Ah memories.

I never saw it as a bad thing and my family life and schoolwork never suffered.

I don't find tv to be evil at all. I think it can be great. DS and I watch a lot of TLC shows. I don't have a lot of time to watch tv or even watch a lot..but when we do .. We watch the little couple , documentaries, and he gets a kick out of honey boo boo. Chat Icon he likes history shows .. A lot of discovery channel. He's quite well informed and worldly. He sure loved shark week! And even travel shows and project runway. He will watch when I'm busy cleaning or working on stuff.

Maybe when my DD is a teenager. I had one in my room during high school and I loved having my own freedom to watch my shows that my parents had no interest in watching.

My kids had them since 2. Just tv with DVD player to play educational DVDs Disney movies...I wouldn't put cable in the rooms.

I got one in middle school. I would like to say never but I might cave once they reach hs and I'm sure we won't be watching a lot of the same shows by than.

My twins have one now and honestly I think it's fine they are only in their rooms to sleep so at night a movie goes on and by the time it's off they are asleep

This is us too. I originally never wanted a tv in his room but it was impossible and a constant battle to get him in his room to lay down at night (he is extremely active). So we got him a tv with a dvd player (he also now has a roku that he got as a gift) and since then bedtime wasn't a struggle for us. Before bed we read a book or two and then he watches either a show or a movie (depending on what time he goes in his room) and he knows that when its over its time to sleep. Sometimes he falls asleep with it on and sometimes he stay up but either way bedtime is no longer a struggle so even though I originally never wanted one, im happy with our decision to get him one.

I grew up with a tv in my room, but don't think I'll be putting one in any of my kids' bedrooms.
