I think some people equate "not seeing pavement" as "not being plowed out" when roads are patchy BUT passable. There are definitely roads that are better than others, though.

Actually no, I don't think that. I think people are saying they are not plowed have not seen a plow, period. They have 3 feet of snow in the road and can't leave their houses.

My parents live in Port Jeff Station and no plow has been seen EVER...here is a picture:

that is insane Chat Icon it is just unacceptable that 2 days later no plows have reached certain areas. If Nassau is mostly plowed and received less snow are they helping to dig out suffolk??

Also, a lot of the smaller, private plows are not attempting to help plow because they will not be paid for it. I don't think thats right, and if I had a plow, I'd be doing whatever I could. At least this is what I heard.

yes exactly...we have seen three trcuks come down our block with there plows up and made just tire tracks in the roadway but didnt try to plow or anything...and we a big cut thru road for two major roads its amazing that we arent plowed yet

I really think it's ridiculous that some streets aren't plowed. We were plowed right away and the street is down to the blacktop. Riverhead town is great with every snowstorm. These towns need to get it together...

I can understand them not plowing if they aren't getting paid for it. Gas is expensive and plowing causes a lot of wear and tear. Especially on these smaller trucks. What I cannot understand is why the towns were not authorizing the hours for these small plows/sub-contractors. With the taxes we pay to live here, all the roads should be clear by now.

I agree. In these extenuating circumstances, there should have been protocols in place so that they'd help and be reimbursed. It's infuriating to some to see plows driving down the road doing nothing.

I know a few guys that subcontract for the town of Brookhaven. If the town doesn't authorize the hours, they don't get paid. That's how it works. Believe me, these guys were all in constant contact with the town, just waiting for the authorization to start plowing. The town should have authorized more trucks a lot sooner then they actually did. The roads wouldn't have been so bad if they stayed on top of it.

They are also assigned specific areas, so if you see trucks driving with their plows up, it probably means they are driving to the area they are responsible for plowing.

A plow just came down our road...went to the end, turned around to the other end, turned around and went to the other end and then drove off.

I'm pretty sure my daughter's Barbie shovel would have been more effective. Chat Icon

The road still looks the same.

It's looked great the whole time, was able to even get out on Saturday to get some formula. Our streets were down to the pavement. I'm disgusted by Brookhaven right now. And the town supervisor is out of town? Disgusting...

As of 2/11..is anyone still not plowed at all???

We were finally plowed over night or early this morning so DH was out shoveling again. Thank god I had him drop me off at work on his way in because if I had to drive, I would have turned around. We still got stuck coming out of the driveway and it took nearly 45 minutes to go about 2 miles to the LIE. This was my first time out since Friday night and the condition of the roads out there is appalling. Ronkonkoma Ave from Portion to the LIE Service Road is basically all ice. We were on it forever.

STILL? Geez.

Did you report it on that Brookhaven website? I did and they finally came...not sure if it was related to that, or not.

I actually may be in the PJS area this afternoon - may hit up Homegoods.

Do you need anything that I can drop off near your road?
