I'm not really sure. I guess I will have to see what our hospital allows, how the delivery goes, and if we have someone to feed/watch our dog.

I would love for him to stay, but he should probably go home and get some rest...

I had both of my kids at Winthrop, and I know they don't let the husbands stay.

I needed the rest and so did DH. Plus, when I had DD #2, we had our other DD at home so it wasn't an option.

I delivered at Good Sam and they did not allow dh's to stay over night. I didn't mind my husband going home and resting up.

I think DH will want to stay. I wont kick him out either.. Chat Icon I guess it just depends on the hospital & type of room I get... Still so early I havent started thinking about that yet

I don't think St. Charles allows the dads to stay overnight. But honestly, I would rather he go home and get a good night's sleep. No sense in both of us being out of it!

They aren't allowed unless your in active labor to stay overnight. I want DH to go home to our dogs anyways

I don't find the need for him to be there, be uncomfortable, get cranky and then NOT be able to function when we get home. Plus, we have a pup at home he'll have to take care of : )

With my DD DH stayed in the hospital with me until she was born. I went in on a sunday around 3 pm and had her monday night right before midnight. So by the time they did everything and she was in the nursery getting cleaned up and checked out it was around 2am so i told him to go home and get some sleep. He was back at 9-10am.

Many hospitals do not allow them to stay. As a BTDT mom I suggest you send him home to get some sleep. That way he is rested and able to help when you and the baby come home.

This was my thinking exactly.

I sent DH home and he slept well. I didnt know how rested I would feel upon coming home from the hospital and I wanted to know at least one of us had some sleep to work on with a NB!

They also allow them to stay if you have a private room.

Re: 1st time mommies . . are you having DH stay at the hospital over night with you?

My hospital let dads stay (Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville -- Westchester) but it was SOOO uncomfortable for him!! The "accomidations" stunk. I sent him home at like 1am the first night. I couldnt sleep watching him trying to get comfortable. After that he went home everynight at like 10-11pm, and came back in the am. Chat Icon

I am not sure. I am not sure what my hospital will allow and I am not sure if we will have anyone to watch our dog. He will probably go home to be with the dog and get a good nights sleep.

Re: 1st time mommies . . are you having DH stay at the hospital over night with you?

I had my baby boy one month ago at NY Presbyterian - Weill Cornell. I could not imagine DH NOT being there! I was in labor for 27 hours and my son was in NICU for 5 days. I had a private room (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!) and DH stayed with me the entire time (there was a chair that reclined into a bed). I was in so much pain the first few days (not to freak anyone out) and he helped he get in and out of bed, use the bathroom, eat, etc. Not sure how I would have managed without him! Since my son was in NICU he could not room with us, so we also spent alot of time with him. We left the hospital together when I was discharged and visited the hospital together for the next 3 days until my son was discharged. DH took another week off of work to continue to take care of us. It really let us bond as a family!

Good luck to everyone!!

South Nassau does not allow husbands to stay over night. They can stay later and come earlier than regular visiting hours, but cannot sleep over.
