Why was this not addressed during previous administrations? Trump's budget is still in effect until 9/30/2021. Why isn't there more in Trump's budget to address this issue?
Biden's budget doesn't go into effect until the end of this fiscal year which ends 9/30/2021.

Yes, I agree. There are many reasons why homelessness for Vets has been around for decades...way back to reconstruction.
I'm asking you to clarify why you think that the migration to the border is the cause of this homelessness?
You have blamed the resources directed to migration and immigration as a contributing if not causal factor to homeless vets.
And yes, you blamed Biden by false claims that he opened the borders and encouraged migrants to come.

Problem at border has existed forever. Don’t forget that America caused much of the destruction and destabilization elsewhere that is leading people to flee here. It’s a bad situation all around.
I worry about the adults and children stuck in the facilities. I worry about their health and safety. My heart goes out to them.
I just watched a video how an adult put 2 children, small, if I am not mistaken like 1 and 4 years old over a wall to a 14 foot fall. Thank god the border patrol had surveillance to see this happen to take care of these children.
Sorry but they have no plan for these kids and we should not be putting our resources above our own to take care of them.
They all should have been sent back years ago to set a precedence for others not to come unless they do it legally.
I watched it too. Those 2 a$$holes put them over the wall during the night and they just took off! Those 2 little kids were toddlers! WTF!
Ages 5 and 4. Still small children and left all alone.

I have not read all the responses, so I apologize if I am repeating. But I am always so confused when people say we should help our people first. First of all, many Americans seem to be very anti helping anyone, Americans included. People FLIP at the mere mention of universal healthcare, free state college tuition, extended maternity leave, better mental healthcare. They aren't willing to pay one red cent more in taxes to help their fellow Americans.
I am also so tired of the "homeless veteran" argument. Are there homeless veterans? Of course. Many? Yes. But, I can assure you they are not homeless because people are seeking asylum. Homelessness, especially among our veterans and mentally ill population, has been a crisis for years, and cannot be fixed by simply redistributing money. What would the money do? Put them in an apartment that they can't pay rent for? With no money to buy food or pay utilities?
Lastly, Americans are no better and no more deserving than anyone else. My children happen to be lucky that they were born in a country where they feel safe- oh, wait, they actually may get shot to death at school or the grocery store. Scratch that.
But, in all seriousness, all human beings have a right to feel safe, all parents have a right to find a safe haven for their children. We can't just say "Oh I'm sorry, but you can no longer seek asylum and hope for a better future for your child because we need to help our homeless veterans. But, no you cannot raise my taxes to do that".

According to DHS, a statistically significant proportion of asylum claims are fraudulent, but this is nothing new. During a 2012 investigation into New York asylum mills, federal prosecutors arrested 30 immigration lawyers, paralegals and interpreters who had assisted asylum-seekers in filing bogus applications. Even today, some migrants are coached about what to say and not to say when claiming asylum.
Why are false claims a problem? According to Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan, who was referring to 7,000 migrants in an expedited docket pilot program, as many as 90 percent of asylum-seekers fail to show up for their follow-up hearings. Instead, they simply disappear into the American interior, thus adding to the 14.3 million illegal aliens already in the United States.

Maybe they don't mention them because it is only 6%, while Mexico and Central America is at 68%.

I don't know if you wrote this in response to what I wrote but if you did you, respectfully, missed my point.
Out of all of the people I have heard say things like this - particularly the "homeless vets" reference - none of those people ever seem to vote for people who would pursue policies that actually get people beds. Ever.
Maybe you'll be the first. IDK. But anyway statements like that are always performative in my experience.

Yes. But it has been pointed out before that the US has specific procedures set in place to claim asylum. Trump set forth a very clear message to any potential migrants that the trip to the US is dangerous and costly and asylum can be claimed from the home country. Biden is basically waving everyone in with his open door policy and all bets are off. Asylum is also claimed at a POE and not in between, which is why Border Patrol is so often involved.
