Fraudulent Unemployment Claims
I am sure this was discussed but please be aware that fraudulent unemployment claims are rampage! My boss and myself were recently notified at our small office that someone filed under our names and SS#. The CPA for our building said that the fraud in UE is in the trillions! Make sure to protect yourself.

you can check on the NY DOL website. Attempt to open an account.
I found out because a notice was sent to my employer but that showed up yesterday and the file was done on 11/30/2020

Yes, I’m on another board and a woman posted that her husband got a unemployment benefits letter and when they start. They were freaking out, thinking he was going to get laid off. He reached out to HR and they confirmed that he was still employed and it was fraud.

Happened to me. They are now trying other types of identity theft.
They applied in NY and Ohio. I’ve never been to Ohio.

That's crazy.
I am actually on unemployment, and it was a giant pain to get approved. It surprises me that you could do that without having documentation (I needed pay stubs & my termination letter.)

This happened to me. I got approval letters and a debit card in the mail in my name and they had all my information. I filed fraud alerts with the NY DOL and on my credit report. When I told my employer they said I was the third employee this week!

It is rampant. 2 attorneys in my law office were affected, and they had to file police reports and contact all the credit bureaus, get new passwords and credit cards, etc. 1 of them rec'd a debit card in the mail.
Fortunately, they were told about it because it seems a few employees in the claims department of my insurance company got wind of employee records and filed the fraudulent claims (the CEO made a big statement about it, notified all the affected people and made sure we knew all responsible individuals were fired). It is just frightening how easily everyone's data can be stolen.

Could be a scam...
Probably, unless someone has a similar username, Ss#, has their information mixed up. This was on the 11th and I haven't gotten anything since, text or mail.

If you've been affected by fraudulent unemployment claims you should file an affidavit with the IRS and NYS.
IRS form is 14039 and NYS Dept of Taxation and Finance form is DTF-275.
