As heartbreaking as this is, it’s nice to see the separation of powers at work. Look at a full blown investigation by the attorney general without interference from the governor.

I am not surprised. My grandmother was in a nursing home (dementia, but otherwise very healthy) and died April 1st at the age of 96 from Covid, but Covid was not listed as a cause of death on her death certificate.

Anecdotally someone told me NYC was just declaring all deaths covid (even with no test) and that’s why NY was so much higher than other areas. So this investigation contradicts that - not surprised just interesting. It was strange how many deaths NY reported compared to positive test cases and why was it sooo much higher than anywhere else?
It’s hard to know what to believe anymore. honestly. I’m just going to stay home, wear a mask and hope for a vaccine soon.

NY infection and death rate was so high because we were hit first. Most people who come from Europe land in NYC. There were 3 million people from Europe that flew to NYC between discovering the virus, and putting the ban up.
Also, we didn't know how to treat it at first.

Doctors are using ventilators differently.
"We try to delay intubation and putting them on a ventilator as much as possible. We try to maintain their oxigenization other ways," Dr. Sethi said.

This all makes a lot of sense.
There was a lot of noise initially that NY was increasing numbers, so interesting to see this article from OP saying the opposite.
I 100% believe the virus is real. I’m pretty scared and lucky enough to work from home.
Ugh. I just want to this all be over. The new strains are concerning, I’ve been trying to learn more about them.

This is what I was wondering too. All these "reports" that the hospitals were putting covid when it was not the reason hutnit turns out deaths were under reported. Is it believed it was intentional or a an error? What would be the benefit of lying about these figures...6

From what I have read, these nursing home deaths are accounted for in NYS' current data. They are listed as deaths, which occurred in the hospital instead of being attributed to the nursing home.

Yes, NY- in Queens. Which is why I never bought into this writing off all deaths as Covid and inflating numbers.
ETA: I also lost my father in August (esophageal cancer) and Covid was most definitely NOT listed as cause of death.
Yeah 2020 was a real winner of a year for me.

I work in an industry where I deal with death certificates. I can say with absolute certainty that "all deaths were declared covid" is not the case. In fact, I bet the actual numbers of people who passed away from covid is higher than we know as a huge number of people died at home and were never tested.

NYC had increased its COVID numbers to add those that they "presumed" died from Covid, died at home, and were never tested. So yes, the numbers may have been inflated. Except the numbers that make Cuomo (and his emmy) look bad.

From what I have read, these nursing home deaths are accounted for in NYS' current data. They are listed as deaths, which occurred in the hospital instead of being attributed to the nursing home.
So it is just misreported information bc they are saying they died, but in hospital as opposed to nursing home? But overall numbers of deaths is generally correct?

Yes, I remember the same. Actual cases where the reason for death on the death certificate was covid even before lab results were back, or if a person was dying already from a disease, but ended up testing positive por covid, the reason given for dying would be covid instead of the actual disease the person was dying with. I remember seeing lots of these type of cases.
I’m glad this intense investigation is happening and by a Democrat attorney general nonetheless! It’s sickening though how Cuomo is still blaming everybody else but him. The balls of this guy!
