Is your neighborhood friendly?
Last week I was in my deli a few blocks from my house and was struck with how sad I was going to be to leave our neighborhood. Besides the town I grew up in, it's the only place I've ever really felt at home.
We've rented in Long Beach for close to 6 years, gotten to know our neighbors, say hello to the people who walk their dogs by my house every morning, give flowers to the little girls down the block when they see me outside gardening, and we know the guys in the deli by name. We know where they live and vice versa, we spend time chatting with them.
I'm really going to miss that. Where do you live, and do you have that kind of friendliness? Not just with the neighbors but with the businesses closeby?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my neighborhood. Besides upstate where I was born and raised, Franklin Square is the only town that I've lived in since moving to LI. I feel completely at home here.

Re: Is your neighborhood friendly?
I LOVE our neighborhood! All our neighbors say hello to one another! When we were doing work on our house, everyone came down to see if we needed any assistance! One of my neighbors had a big bash this summer so all the "new" neighbors could meet the "old" ones!
Even when I grew up in Levittown & my parents still live there, there is nothing but friendliness! Everyone says hello & helps one another out!

Mine wasn't growing up (Seaford) - But I like Massapequa much better -
I think the 'friendliest' town I've ever seen though is Levittown - Talk about everyone knowing everyone ! - My DH grew up there and still knows random people just by the street they live on ........

I completely agree about Levittown. My Aunt has lived there all my life and she just seems to have the BEST neighbors EVER! They're always willing to help her out.

Funny you mention Levittown... That's where I grew up too.
Kissy, what town do you live in? That's great that your neighbors offer their help like that! You must be good neighbors too.

Nope
Moving to a "tony gold coast" town, I should have expected unfriendly people. It is far worse than I ever imagined.

you have mentioned you live in great neck right? DH lived there years ago and hated it. We moved to Manhasset in April and i think that he feared that people would be the same but it is the total opposite. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. it's a really great community.

That's what I worry about a little. DH and I like Port Jeff & Huntington a lot and I wonder about neighbors who's primary concern is total privacy.

I grew up in between Huntington and port jeff and have known many people who live in those towns - everyone seems very friendly. i dont think you will have that problem.
