LASIK Eye Surgery

I know everyone loves their experience but I wish I never had it done. Maybe if I were younger it would have been ok but I completely lost my near sight and now I have to wear reading glasses when I didn’t have to before. I also have dry eye all the time. On the plus side, my night vision is better than it was before and I didn’t get halos.

It cost around $4k and I got it done in Garden City (Dr. (Hufnagel).

I had it done approx 15 yrs ago to correct my myopia and I do not regret it! Best decision ever! I had it done with Dr Chang, I highly recommend him, love him! I payed very little back then but it was because I worked in his office, it’s the same office as Dr Hufnagel.

Since you said anything you'd like to add, I'll add my 2 cents! Haven't had it done and never will....I'm too chicken and I won't mess with my eyes. I personally only know three people that have had it done. One, great experience, over 10 years ago...one , bad experience , multiple corrective surgeries... last one is my gyno who just had it done last year...his eye dr. friends told him when they finally felt it was safe to do...that was only last year!!!! He is 71, so he did it. I'm a chicken sh@T about the eyes so I guess I don;t get it. What is so bad about wearing contacts? I'm wearing them since I was 11. whatever you choose to do, just do your research and best of luck!

I got it done at the same office people were referencing above, but I think I got it done too young.. I was 20 years old- I am now 34. Over time my vision has worsened. I now need glasses to drive. And my vision to see far away stinks, although not as bad from before I had lasik.

My brother recently got it done and he experienced issues with reading like others have referenced...

I'm too chicken to get it done.
For every success story, there is a horror story.
I'm not about to mess with my vision.

My eyes are totally cocked, nearsighted in one eye, farsighted in the other.
At almost 52, I still don't need reading glasses, but I find I need my distance glasses more often if I want to see clearly.

I agree with ppl saying ur vision will eventually deteriorate, and it most likely have nothing to do with having lasik surgery. That can happen even if u’ve never had corrective surgery before, we can thank age for that!

I had it done 22 years ago. I was 23 at the time. Best thing I ever did for myself. My vision was so bad - I had to have something about 5 inches from my face to see it. Now, at 45 my near vision is getting a little rough - I think I need to get reading glasses. But, as others have said, I was told it was pretty inevitable that as I aged that would happen. I almost wanted to tweak it maybe the year after I had it done just so both eyes we totally perfect, but the dr said if I over corrected, I'd likely need reading glasses sooner.
My distance vision is probably still around 20/20 in my left and slightly worse in my right. They tell me I could get glasses for distance- but they haven't thought it was necessary.
I used Dr. Donnenfeld in Garden City. At the time, I think I paid $5000 for both eyes.
ETA - I thought Dr. Donnenfeld was awesome - and he's obviously been doing it a long time so he has plenty of experience.

The thing is- when you are nearsighted, your up close vision is better, longer.
I am 44. When I have no contacts in or glasses on I can read tiny print right up in front of my face. Why? Because I'm so freaking nearsighted. The key word being NEAR sighted. (Can see near, but not far).

When my glasses or contacts are in I find I can't see up close as well. Because my nearsightedness is being corrected.

So the people who are saying their close up vision got worse when they had laser vision correction after age 40- well that is the reason why...

I'm not saying the lasik caused it- it's just a normal effect of no longer being NEAR sighted.

What is confusing me is that even as a nearsighted person, I would eventually need reading glasses. Hence I am no longer near sighted because I can't see up close to read? Or is that two different things?

I was nearsighted, only used my glasses for driving and sometimes not even for short distance. I guess I will see in a few years. They say it should last for 10 years.

Yes, I actually asked my eye doctor and that is what he told me.
He told me that your nearsightedness actually gets slightly better as you get older, but your close up vision deteriorates.
Can't win I guess!

I had it done 22 years ago. Best thing ever. My vision was the worst. My glasses were very thick, and contacts brought me infections sometimes, because I was young and stupid lol and sometimes slept with them, and with my make up on, etc.

I'm 44 and I can read well and very small font, but my far vision is not as good as it was after the surgery. Now I need glasses to watch tv and to drive. Sometimes I wear contacts, but disposable ones.... but it is nothing compare to how my vision was before the surgery.

I had it done 3 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I had it done at the Lasik Vision Institute in Garden City and if I'm remembering correctly, it was about $2900 for both eyes. It's a lot of eye drops at the beginning but now I rarely use them and I still see crystal clear. My husband, my father-in-law and I all had it within 2 months of each other and had amazing results.

With that said, my mother-in-law had it done at the same time as well and had a very different experience. She had a lot of dry eye problems and had to go back in for corrective surgery and still has trouble at night. Had this happened to her before I got mine done, I don't know if I would have done it - I probably would have been way too nervous.

10 of my family members got it done at Long Island Surgical Care in Brentwood. I asked for referral credits since they all went after I got it done. Mine was $2800 but that was 16 years ago.

Best decision ever. I did mine at LASIK plus in NJ in 2011 and my husband had it done there in 2006. TBH I went for the consultation but didn’t do a ton of research on it because i was scared. But it really wasn’t bad, just a week
or two where you use a lot of drops post/surgery and the next thing you know, it’s just the new normal. DH and I got it done in our 20’s and now in our 30’s and no need for reading glasses yet but I imagine the normal aging process will kick in once we hit our 40’s and I wouldn’t blame LASIK for needing reading glasses.

I never thought I would want to mess with my eyes and years ago when they first started doing it, I was very nervous so I never investigated. Now I have just had it with contacts and glasses!

I will be looking into those doctors that you have mentioned....guess I better start saving!
