Karate class prices for kids

I am posting here bc there is more traffic :)

I purchase a Groupon for a month of karate for my son

So far so good, love the discipline
So I asked how much the classes are after the Groupon is up

$150a month or 6 months
For $130 a month
Unlimited classes

Does this sound right? How does someone afford to keep up with it

No personal experience but wow. That sounds high.
You can lease an affordable car for those monthly prices.
I'd price around to a few other places to see.

That sounds right for Karate, especially for unlimited classes.

Kids activities are expensive! I pay $245 a month for gymnastics (plus meet fees, etc.), but then to put it in persepective.....I pay that for 9 hours a week. People that send their kids 1 day a week for rec gymnastics class pay like $100 or up for 1.5 hours. So..I don't feel like it's too bad.

I was paying $100/month for 1 30 minute class/week. In fairness it was a special needs class. No makeups available for missed classes.
I pay $95/month for a one hour gymnastics class once a week. They do have other classes and if we miss a class we can make it up. I figure it is about $25 a week. And if I took him to something on that day it would cost about the same. He loves his gymnastics class though.

TKD 3x and unlimited is $140/mo

2x a week is 125 i think

We dont have makeups and instructor doesn't take attendance

We pay something around $150 for what is supposed to be twice a week. Some weeks we've taken him 3 times with no issues, sometimes we're only able to make once a week due to sickness or scheduling.

They take 25 off for the second kid/adult. I take the adult class and I think I like it even more than he does.

Obviously you've already gone down this path, but what i did before I signed him up for one of these "specials" was nail down all the monthly and other fees before signing him up for the special.

Its tough to put the rabbit back in the hat after they get their "free" uniform and start kicking things.

Its an expensive activity, we definitely feel the pain. It does get annoying when he says he doesn't want to go, which happens at times b/c he's a homebody. Forgetting whether he likes it or not (he does when we get him out of the house), I do think it benefits my son working on his core strength, balance and stamina which he used to get PT for and now doesn't b/c he's meeting the minimum.

To put it in perspective, figure $20 a class 8 times a month and you're at $160. Its not terrible thinking about it that way... Of course keep in mind there are other fees, new uniform when they get bigger, in mine there are belt testing fees for every belt.

My money and my son go to Champions Tae Kwon Do.

Yep I pay 150/month for Kung Fu. 3x a week and it includes self defense, sparring and weapons class. Like above poster, there is also testing fees and uniform/gear.
