HELP! My 5 month old good sleeper is suddenly waking ALL night.

DD started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks old. FOr me, this was a miracle considering DS didnt start sleeping through the night until after he turned 1. But suddenly around 4 months she started waking up again once per night. Still not a big deal, although it's been going on for a month now.

But this week has been a nightmare. She just turned 5 months. She's teething a bit and she has a bad cough, so I dont know if that's contributing to this, but she's waking up every 2 hours at night. When we try to give her the bottle she's not really drinking anything...she'll just sort of chew on the nipple and "fake suck" as I like to call it, but she's not really drinking much of anything. She's falling asleep while we hold her but then the second we put her down in her crib or the Rock N Play, she's wide awake, fidgeting, kicking her feet, and crying.

Any idea?? I'm about to go mad. Last night we were up at 10:30, 12:30, 1:30, 3:30, and 5:30!!! Chat Icon

it's probably the teething. Try orajel nighttime formula or motrin. It's been working well with DD. She's been a great sleeper as well, but in the last month or so has been waking at night. The orajel has been working really well

Probably teething and cough. Ask your doctor about tylenol. But honestly nothing but time helped us. It takes forever for these teeth to come through and then new teeth start coming :/

I went through the same with DD around this age. 6 months- 8 months. Most of the time I wound up just bringing her in the bed with us to get some semblance of sleep. Nothing helped- no orajel, motrin, humidifier, nosefrieda, anything- she had teething, colds, and ear infections on rotation this entire time. Chat Icon All I can say is... it did end. It got worse before it got better and then I had to sleep train her, which was all new territory to me since she basically did it herself at 2 months. After two nights of sleep training she was back to her normal self- falling asleep on her own, sleeping through the night, a happier baby during the day. Now, she's at it again at 11 months. I guess it goes in cycles! Chat Icon

I went through this with DS. From 4.5 months until 8 months he slept through the night. After that he was up all night for almost 3 months...I nearly lost my mind. I had no idea what was causing it but then he got 4 top teeth all at once and once they broke he started sleeping through the night again. I always felt Tylenol made him sleep worse so for us it was just time. I hope everything gets better soon!

You may want to look out for an ear infection. When my daughter was younger she showed no signs of being sick. However was up throughout the night. It ended up being an ear infection. On the other hand, my other daughter started waking up in the middle of the night around 6 months and she wasn't sick. I had to sleep train her

I would not star a bottle again. My kids went through this a little and then got over it. But I would suggest taking her in for the cough if you haven't. My kids never got fevers with earaches it was always a bad cough.

It could be some teething. Have you started cereal with her yet? We found that once our DD started cereal at 5 months, she started sleeping through much more consistently. My DD also had some reflux issues and starting cereal calmed that down tremendously.

Sleep regression/teething. I kept to our routine as much as possible and it eventually passed.
