Need more opinions!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

So in addition to working on my cooking lesson plan I've decided to also start selling my homemade Italian pizzelle cookies. The recipe has been in my family for generations, I have awesome cast iron pizzelle irons that have been in my family for years, and I make a kick a$$ pizzelle. REALLY good!!

Every time I make them people go nuts, many remember them from childhood but have no means to make them and the ones you buy in the store are gross cr@p. So I thought..........that's where I fit in!!

I applied for the permit from NYS to cook in my kitchen and sell my pizzelles so I am waiting for that. In the meantime I working on packaging and pricing. So my question............is this a product you would be interested in? I was thinking of offering small packages, boxes, and holiday platters.

So, please tell me what you think. Any advice or comments are appreciated!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I say yes! I love them, and you can't buy a decent one! I do have a family member who makes them, and they are so good!

It's not something my family has ever eaten so I wouldn't be interested. But there is a bit Italian population on the Island so you never know. GL!

I also have a family member who makes them, so I personally wouldn't buy them. But I bet others would. You should definitely do it.

They are!! They are my most favorite cookie next to rainbow cookies and you just can't get good pizzelles anywhere. They are always too thick and have no flavor. Yuck.

Thank you everyone for the input. Chat Icon

How long do they keep? That's my concern. They seem like they would not taste good after a day or two.

Pizzelles keep for weeks and taste fresh and delicious. The really don't go stale if they are stored properly. My family would make them in early December and at Xmas they were still perfect and delicious.

That being said though, I would get them to people as quickly as possible after they are made. Chat Icon

You know, come to think of it, I thnk I had these at a backyard engagement party this summer. Someone made them and brought them.
I didn't know what they were at the time but i couldn't stop eating them.
Sounds just like this. But unlike the picture you posted they were more of an open weave.
Ridiculously dangerous!

I eat them ALL December, I cannot stop!! Chat Icon Chat Icon They have been my Xmas morning "breakfast" since I was a kid. Present opening and pizzelles = heaven Chat Icon

The design of them really depends on the iron you use. Different irons have different patterns. It's actually hard to find good irons nowadays, nothing holds a candle to the cast iron ones from years ago. Also, how they turn out (even with a good iron) depends entirely on how good your batter is and how much batter is placed into the iron for each pizzelle. They should be thin, light and crispy, not like the icky thick ones in the store.

They are time consuming to make but SO worth it!! Yummy!!!

Pizzelles with a thin smear of Nutella sandwiched in between .
To Die For.

Go for it !
I love pizzelles but don't make them myself. I agree with everyone, nothing beats a good home made one.
I'm in the minority, I do like anise flavor.
Best thing is that you can try different flavors outside the traditional ones.
A little lemon and a little vanilla together are pretty good. That's what gives Italian butter cookies their unique flavor.

I think its a good idea.

I would buy some! I love pizelles but don't have the equipment or patience, I am resigned to eating my aunt's once a year on Christmas Eve.

LOVE them! I am always tempted to buy them from the supermarket, but stop myself because I know they are going to suck.
Do you make Struffoli too?

My family makes struffoli every Xmas. I know how to make them but my aunt is the usually one who does it for the family. I like them fresh and hot out of the fryer but I loathe honey so I don't eat them once they are coated.
