Zantac for reflux ?
If your child was put on Zantac for reflux
How long do they stay on it for ?
Did they eventually grow out of the reflux - if yes what age ?
DD IS 2 months and we just started Zantac today for reflux
I'm trying to get as much information as possible

DD was on axid, but pretty much the same thing.
She weaned off it around 10-11 months.
The ped said that once they start to sit up better and get more muscle control in their upper bodies, the reflux tends to improve. That's usually around 6 months or so
She was still spitting up quite a bit though so we kept her on it until around 10 months and then reduced the dose. By 11 months she was off of it completely.

DS was off of it around 7 or 8 months. DD was off by 6 months.

We started it at 1.5 months and stopped it at 5 months.
When we stopped it, he was still spitting up, but we had missed a day by accident and didn't see a difference. So we tried to go with it and he was still spitting up, but at this point was a happy spitter and no longer crying and projectile.

Zantac for reflux ?
DD was put on zantac about the same age. It helped her! She outgrew it by 6 months and was off zantac. She was able to sleep flat by then. We also changed her formula to Alimentum as well at that time. Both things were what she needed to finally be all better. Her issue was more dairy protein intolerance with mild reflux.

Dd2 was on it from about 2 mo this to about 6 months. DS will be 3 mo this week and I can't see him stopping for a long while. It helps tremendously. But be on top of upping it. Every time he gains some weight he spits up a ton and is so uncomfortable. You can tell. Now I just call and the dr ups it.

Zantac (or Axid) won't prevent the spit up. Spitting up is due to the immature digestive system. Zantac just neutralizes the stomach acid and prevents the burning and discomfort associated with reflux.

My best friend's daughter is on it now--she started around 3 months old and has been on it for a month. It's helping a little bit. She has "silent reflux."
My other friend's daughter starting Zantac around 3 months b/c she was always spitting up. Zantac didn't work so they put her on a different Rx. She weaned off of it around 9 or 10 months. She's 13 months now and doing great.
