This is interesting, I went to a predominately white (98%) school district, so I had a very different environment growing up.
After reading many of your posts about how we are all racist, I still don't see how any of this could be fixed. How would you even begin change the situation in the town you describe. The wealthy (regardless of race) will live in the better part of town, they will send their kids to the best schools they can afford. Is that wrong? Is that racist?
So not wanting to jump into the middle of this part of this thread, but to fix it, I think we need to consider why "the wealthy" are most often white - what is holding back racial minorities from entering the upper class (not always of course, but for the most part). I think it starts with access to better education and eliminating racism (even if it' subtle or unconscious) in hiring. I know those are to very basic but huge issues to address and how that gets done, I don't know, but I think that's where things need to start. Then you also have racism (again, often subtle or unconscious) in housing - both in rental markets and home ownership. So it's not a matter of "fixing" one town - I think there has to be a larger approach to the problem

The issue is that "best" is a subjective term. The people who are wealthy end up controlling that term; a large percentage of the people who are wealthy are white, which is a problem itself. The idea of "best" and "worst" itself is then defined primarily by one race with little room for other opinions.
Long Island has school districts and communities that are scorned for racial reasons related to this issue.

yup, guy's a total joke and I really am shocked at the amount of support he has - to be fair HRC is a joke too which is why I am voting independent - eff these 2 morons!!!!

Because racism is so institutionalized, there would need to be overhauls to local zoning, school districts, access to banking/credit, salary remediation, access to higher education, voting districts, etc. It will never happen in my lifetime, but I hope our future generations have the tenacity to see it through.
Think of it like this - it's a huge domino effect. Even though slaves were recognized at citizens in 1868, they were still not granted the same rights as their white peers. The Jim Crow laws were enacted as a way to -in a sense- legalize the segregation and further oppression of blacks. Fast forward to the early 1930s/40s and the demarcation between "good" and "bad" neighborhoods came about because blacks were still seen as "less than" by white communities and didn't want to live near them. Banks would give mortgages and credit to white families but not black families. They were denied access to home loans and therefore were systematically segregated (how people refer to "inner city" and "ghetto" as code for mostly non-white areas). Because of that, school districts were created and/or rezoned to keep the barrier intact. So then white areas with white school districts tended to get more funding and would then have the ability to give their students access to more extracurricular activities, maintain their schools better, hire more teachers, etc, etc. Schools within the black communities lacked funding, updates, activities, etc. It was only in 1954 that segregation in schools was declared unconstitutional (Brown v. Board of Education). Now if this cycle repeats over and over, every generation, and not much changes, that is institutionalized racism. Fast forward to 2016, and more than ever are we reluctant to "rewrite" history and make changes to benefit everyone no matter their skin color.
This is just one example, but think of the basic principle - whites being given access that people of color are not - and apply to other industries and areas in our societies like owning a business, access to higher education, wage disparities, the criminal justice system, access to healthcare, etc.

I absolutely agree that data can represent those elements. However, the criteria for "best" themselves that are subjective; to me, test scores by themselves mean very little. Therefore, using them to determine the "best" doesn't work; they may be the highest, but that doesn't--again, to me--mean the best.
Also, I disagree with you very respectfully on the subjectivity of "best."

I was talking to someone about who to vote for when both candidates are beyond horrendous, and he said something interesting. He said to ask myself whether I feel things are better or worse, and if for me personally things are better or worse, than they were 8 years ago.
I hate these political threads and almost didnt read this one. However, for this one piece of advice for someone like me who doesn't love either candidate it helps put things into some sort of perspective. Thank you for passing it along.

Go vote for Trump, Go vote for Hillary, Go vote 3rd party, go write in Mickey Mouse.

Exactly, the world is going to hell in a hand basket anyway ! That said, I will vote for HRC because I cannot fathom an unpolished, cave man running our county. Also, the whole thing about republicans being dumb is moronic. You can't make such a silly, all inclusive generalization.
