TMJ treatments

I've been to two ENTs and they both seem to think that I have TMJ. I have severe, severe ear pain (almost to the point of nausea at times), cheek bone pain, and jaw pain. I don't think I've ever had pain like this in my life!

I'm on a week of steroids and muscle relaxers, but after that was told to see an oral surgeon for other options.

It seems like a lot of treatment is done at home on your own. I'm wondering what's been successful and just a starting point to hopefully get some relief from this pain :(

TIA

Re: TMJ treatments

Do you have a night guard?

Also staying away from
Anything chewy or things you have to open your mouth wide to eat. Bagels, sandwiches Etc. may help

No night guard yet. The ENT today said the oral surgeon would discuss that.

Re: TMJ treatments

I would get a night guard. I know that was the first step for my grandfather before surgery. They sell them at cvs.

Re: TMJ treatments

I see the TMJ expert. Are you in LI? If so, I can recommend him to you. He is awesome. I have a mouth guard he makes for me. I usually try to avoid certain foods that are chewy and if I have been lax with my bite plate, I start using it again. B/c at night is the main time I am grinding and don't know I am and can't control myself.

I don't think an oral surgeon is the one to see. You need a TMJ specialist.

He is very $ but worth every penny to get rid of my pain.
