Re: Wwyd- re being a bridesmaid

why do weddings turn seemingly normal women into raging beotches.

i think its time for a heart to heart about her attitude. the world does not revolve around her or her wedding.
the pregnancy comment would have sent me over the edge.

I remember brides, saying while planning their wedding that they ere concerned that a BM would be pregnant for their wedding, so that doesn't surprise me, as some brides get very self-centered when planning their weddings.

She really shouldn't have said it TO you though.

The hair & makeup thing drives me crazy though, If you want the bride to use the person you found, then you should pay for it. If you can't do that , then it should be up to them. Even if she wants you to have an up do, maybe you can get it done by your own person, or can do it yourself ( or with help from a non pro)

My mom & I paid for my bridesmaid's hair & make up, but even then, I didn't insist- my MOH, almost did her own makeup, but then changed her mind. Either way was fine by me.

I hop she doesn't make you get matching shoes. My friend's mom insisted on that & they didn't come in my size, so I was in pain the whole time.

I haven't read all the comments, but I'd prob tell her you're getting your own hair and makeup done. Either do it yourself or pay someone cheaper.

If she says no, I'd probably say thank you but no thank you to being in the wedding.

this exactly.
I paid for the hair and make-up. it was my gift to my bridesmaids.
they had long dresses, so i told them to pick any shoes in XX color. They also wore whatever jewelry they wanted.

One bridesmaid did not order her dress from the same store, had her hair and make up done separately. she still matched and i was fine with that.

I was in a wedding where we needed to have matching shoes. hated them, i paid almost $100 (at a time when i was unemployed) for show i wore to the ceremony, and for pictures. those things were off as soon as we were done walking into the reception and given to the salvation army about a month later. total waste of money! (FYI, no one in the bridal party enjoyed that wedding)

OH. HELL. NO.
NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

I think $200 for a bridesmaid dress is plenty and the fact she wants you to spend an additional $300+ on hair and makeup. No thanks. Plus alterations. Come on. She's completely unrealistic.

Since she's that good of a friend you should tell her you can't swing it, or atleast be honest about the finances. If she has a problem with that then that's her issue. Does anyone else in the bridal party have anything to say? Does her money tree grow $100's in her backyard?

Someone needs to bring her back down to reality. What does her FH say?

There goes her wedding gift.

And the "plan your pregnancy around my wedding comment" I would love lost my shit on here right then and there.

She's selfish and inconsiderate. Give me her phone number. I'll call her for you.

Wwyd- re being a bridesmaid

Thank you for all the advice ladies. I talked to DH. He wants to say something to the groom about how nuts she's being with all her crazy expectations. Of coarse I want to look polished and clean for her wedding and have no problem paying for hair and make up- but this is a crazy amount! I plan to tell her I am going to have hair and make up done on my own. Of coarse I know saying yes to being a bridesmaid comes with costs- totally have no problem spending money for a friends wedding- but this amount is absurd! I never expected this!! If she's upset about me not having hair and make up done with her then oh well. DH and I already agreed we aren't giving them as much of a wedding gift as they did us and I'm not sure yet how much I will spend on a gift for her shower. The rest of the girls- we haven't talked outside from a group text that includes the bride. One of my good friends who was in my wedding and is also in hers I know is annoyed with the costs. She's pregnant now with baby #2 so I know she's trying to be very budget conscious. I plan to text her since we live a town apart and see if she wants to go together else where.
The pregnancy comment- I still don't even know how to respond to it to be honest. My feelings are actually more hurt than I thought. I never thought that she would become bridezilla but she has. And she is definitely trying to outdo her sister on everything and I really wish she would go with her style and the things I knew she liked because this wedding is so not her. After this wedding is over, I plan to have a serious heart to heart with her. I don't think I will cut her out of my life. We have a big group of friends and have all been friends since middle/ high school. I'm just so hurt by the comment. I don't get why she's being like this. I really don't. And with her absurd lack of people's budgets well that's nuts because for my wedding she didn't even stay over for my bachelorette party because she couldn't afford it- mind you I got married in late 2014. To think she thinks we can all pay for these things is crazy and to pick and decide things (I get she wants what she wants) but with a cost like these things I would have thought she would ask if it was ok before deciding to spend all our money! I have actually been friends with the groom longer than the bride. The groom is fairly simple so I would love to know how he feels about this. I'm sure DH will talk to him about this whole thing.

In a nutshell, your friend just sounds immature and sellfish.

Re: Wwyd- re being a bridesmaid

I would have had to say something at the cost of the dress. That's crazy!!!

I probably would have dropped out as soon as I heard how much she wanted us to spend for the dress and hair... crazy. Some brides are just so self centered.

ETA since at this point you feel like you can't back out then just let her know you can't spend that much on hair/makeup. You are probably going to incur a ton of other costs too such as bachelorette party and shower (if she is having bridesmaids pay for it) so I don't blame you if you give less at the wedding.

This.

And honestly, when I got married, I never expected the bridal party to give much if anything at all.
