How hard is it to get second mammogram in one year?

I have been having a terrible pain on the side of my breast for two months. I saw an orthopedist for something unrelated and he told me to see obgyn. I saw np the other day at obgyn who gave me a script with a code And said I should go get this done for peace of mind. When I called breast mammography center supervisor told me it must say diagnostic on script to get it done within the year. Mine doesn't say that. She has an appt set aside tentatively for me in next few days. I have now called gynecologist office three times in reference to script and nobody got back to me. I am livid they never got back to me. My yearly mammogram is due in three weeks but I am worried and don't want to wait. Should this be so hard?

its not hard, as long as the word diagnostic is on the script you should be covered.

I would be pissed at the GYN office as well, but I would prob wait until my reg one is do, BUT, you can get your yearly one done unusually within 30 day of when it is do. Ask the mamo office or call your insurance company.

I don't know if you have dense breasts but Ultrasounds are usually covered. I can only get one mammo once a year, after fighting with them that I am high risk since Iam under 40 but Ultrasounds I can get more than one if I am having pain in my breast. I have cysts and they are painful. Hopefully that's all it is.

I'm sure it depends on the insurance company but I had 3 mammos and three sonos in 2015. One time was my yearly mammo and sono the beginning of the year and the other two times were mammo and sonos on my right breast for issues I was having. I had no issues getting the second and third mammos covered by my insurance. The last mammo I had it was written on the script for a full diagnostic and I had to tell them when I made the appt that I needed a full diagnostic. They had to look for a specific appt time slot where I could get a diagnostic. On the mammo before that there was nothing about a diagnostic on my script. But my insurance covered it I am assuming because of the issue at hand. I agree with PP's about going to your OB's office with the script in hand. They can get another script right away.

The issue is that insurance will cover 1 mammo every 12 months UNLESS it's medically necessary to have additional ones. The OP needs her dr to prove that it's medically necessary via the word "diagnostic" on the script.
