getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
if you're getting "older," would you ever consider being a surrogate for another woman and/or couple?
the thread about the friend who is 39 and wants a baby got me thinking.
all the women in my life who i would, hands down, carry a baby for... well, they all have more kids than i do. but back when we were in our 20s and not everyone was a mom, yet... i would not have hesitated a single second if any of those four women asked me to carry their baby(s) for them.
is there anyone you would carry a baby for? how old do you think might be too old to be a surrogate for a family member or friend?
the four women in my life were (past tense only because they all have babies): my sister and my three cousins (who are like sisters to me).
i'm 42. i think i'm over the hill to be a surrogate.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
I would love to be a surrogate and have offered to a few people in my life. I am early 30's and done having kids for myself. I have offered and would be a surrogate for my sister or sister in law and my bff. Two of those three had trouble conceiving and if needed I would have been more then happy to do it for them.

Yes, I would consider it but only for someone I could guarantee I would be a part of their life like my best friend or a family member.

My best friend growing up and his husband if they wanted a biological child of their own. My sister and my best girlfriend had they needed me too (they didn't, but if they did, would have in a heartbeat). Thats it though.

I would have done it if it was for my sister. Other then her, no. I admire woman you do it for others. The most generous, loving, incredible gift in the world.

My brother and his wife struggled with infertility. I offered to do it for them, but they decided to adopt instead

I wish I knew someone who would carry for me, as that is what the DRs want.
If I could I would consider it for someone in need.
I don't think it would need to be someone close because I don't know if I could handle seeing the baby, child, adult..as they grow

Yes, I would. I've considered it for a friend but it's a complicated decision and I think a lot more goes into it than most people realize.

If I was going to do it for anyone, it'd be for my sisters. I have some issues after having my DS so at this point, I probably wouldn't.

I've never had kids (don't plan on it) but I would be open to the idea for a family member or friend.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
I love being pregnant and I have had uncomplicated pregnancies. However, I would only carry a baby for my SILs or one of my cousins. I don't have any sisters.

I could not. Pregnancy and I do not agree. It's unlikely I will ever get pregnant again with my own child so I couldn't do it for someone else.
I think it's an incredibly selfless thing to do and all you ladies who said you would do it are truly wonderful women!

I couldn't do it. Maybe if I had a sister but even then I don't know.
You are definitely not too old at 42 to have a kid. I have a couple of cousins that had kids at 41/42. I also want a third and will be around 40 if that happens.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
No, I couldn't do it.
1. I have rough pregnancies and I don't think that I would want to sacrifice my career and time with my own kids if I had another high risk pregnancy. It was bad enough when it was my own.
2. I think I would have a hard time detaching.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
I would totally do it and I've thought about it when people close to me were having trouble. I have rough pregnancies too, but there's something about being able to give someone that kind of gift that would make me want to gladly deal with 9 months of torture.

I offered to do it for my sister when she was struggling - she wound up having twins though <3 - I would also do it for my BFF if she needed it.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
I give credit to those who can do it but I honestly don't think I could. Especially now having kids of my own, if I'm going to go though the VERY long 9 months of pregnancy it's going to be to add to my family, not someone else's. And at almost, 41........I feel too old to be a surrogate for someone else.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
MAYBE for my sister. Otherwise, nope. Never.
ETA: I'm actually enjoying being pregnant- I've had a very easy pregnancy and I'm 31 weeks along. But even if it's someone else's egg/sperm, I'd still be a little possessive. I think my sister is the only person who this would fly with and who I would feel comfortable giving a baby up to. Not even my brother and his hypothetical future wife.

No way. I barely wanted to carry one for myself. I swore I would NEVER be pregnant again. I hated being pregnant with a passion. No way could i go through that helll for anyone other than my own baby.
