How much do you tip?
At a restaurant for good service do you double the tax or give 20%?

20% always. If the service was awesome, then I usually go a little higher.
If the service sucked, then I'll give less than 20% - usually about 15% then...but that has only happened on a couple of occasions where it was clear that the waiter couldn't be bothered to, you know, do their job correctly. Or in the case where a waitress actually insulted me, nothing but a note telling her exactly why she didn't get a tip.
But yeah - always 20% is my baseline. I know people say that you should tip on the cost of the food you ordered and not the drinks because the bartender prepares those, or tip on the total before tax...to that, I say, if I'm fortunate enough to be eating at a restaurant where someone is serving me, then I am fortunate enough to be able to tip well on the whole bill.

20% or more always. I never give less than 20%.
Somewhat related, we have friends who we can't go to dinner with anymore because they are the world's worst tippers. Then give like 10% or they give the tax. It's embarassing. Don't eat out if you don't want to pay for service.

How much do you tip?
20% of the total (after tax). I've been told that I should be giving 20% on the subtotal before the tax, so maybe I'm actually giving too much, but we just consider it part of the cost of going out. Not going to quibble over a few bucks.

I tip on total bill. Standard % is 20. A little more or less depending on level of service.

I was a server in college, and I'm of the mindset that you can never tip too much. 20% for standard service, more for exceptional service, less for terrible service (if it's obviously the server's fault).

In never double tax. That's only 16%. I always tip about 25%. If I have breakfast? Let's say. And it came to $11 I would tip $5. These servers are stuffed, work their buts off, and don't get paid well. I had a commission only job. My mottos is that if I can afford $3 I can afford $5. I always give an extra few bucks.

I just think this obsession everyone has with tipping is a crazy. Sometimes I wonder if I gave enough or should give more/less but I don't have a set amount. I think giving $5 for an $11 meal is a bit crazy too. I also don't believe in a slandered 20%-25%.

Lol, seriously? I have seen some posts by you lately where you are quite nasty but that is neither here or there.
I think the posters question was legitimate if you tip from the tax or total.
