boy, this site is very concerned with money, tipping etc...
I do why do you ask?
Then I would think you would understand why everyone talks and is concerned about money.
I think your comment to me came off a bit rude.
I just think this obsession everyone has with tipping is a crazy. Sometimes I wonder if I gave enough or should give more/less but I don't have a set amount. I think giving $5 for an $11 meal is a bit crazy too. I also don't believe in a slandered 20%-25%.
I find most of the time service is pretty crappy and servers don't care.
Lol, seriously? I have seen some posts by you lately where you are quite nasty but that is neither here or there.
I think the posters question was legitimate if you tip from the tax or total.
quite nasty, not sure which posts you mean. However, my comment was not about lig or not, its normal to wonder what other pay, earn etc, but the questions about tipping everyday on this site, and who to tip is crazy.

Re: How much do you tip?
Usually 20%, more if they were really good. I've given WAY less than 20% if the service was really bad, I've even walked away once or twice leaving NO tip because the service was completely horrible.

Re: How much do you tip?
I give 20% for good service. I used to ALWAYS give 20% but if the service stinks I don't anymore, service is usually good. I give extra if kids make an extra mess.

The "fight" these 2 above are having mentioned me. They said giving $5 for an $11 meal is crazy.
I disagree and see you do as well.
I'm not rich but I do ok. The extra 2 bucks to me does make THAT much of a difference. But to these people who rely on tips to feed their family it does.
I will ALWAYS throw a few extra bucks at waitress/waiter. Always.

This is what I do too - for Food Service.
I think tipping can get out of hand when it comes to other services.
I always tip food delivery people $5 - I don't base it on how much my order came to.

How much do you tip?
Remind me: what's the tax again for NY or Long Island?
Base, I never give less than twice the tax.. but that's for bleh, meh barely there service. Anything better it goes up. But basically they never get less than about 17-18% from us no matter what. Crappy service and I'm hard pressed to even leave a tip at all. I've once gone to a manager and said I'd rather my tip go to the bus boy and rest of the wait staff over my own server and left it with the manager. But that's really horrible service.
$5 is a minimum for delivery as well. I mean come on. Why not? But if my order is over $30 it gets a little trickier. LOL $50 of food and I give a $5 tip? I'd feel bad. Hauling that crap to my door alone is a pain. After all, delivery is all about convenience, right?
I also increase wait staff tip by time we waste. If it's super busy and we waste a lot of time (which I've been with folks who do) we tip more. Because NO ONE rushes you out the door. It's common courtesy you stay, you pay. Chit chat and drink until as long as you want, take up the table during rush times. Fine by them. Understand that waiter is missing a few tables due to it. Yes it's easier on them but lighter on their pockets. It's only fair. Those tips sincerely get crazy. I've been part of groups were we try to tip up to 75% of our tab. LOL just to see if we can hit it! fair is fair
