For those that eat sushi regularly....
Is it possible for sushi restaurants to make rolls without seaweed? A good friend asked to go out for sushi this weekend for her birthday and I'm not opposed to eating sushi, just the seaweed. If they don't use it, what can it get wrapped in? Is there a name for seaweed-less sushi? Thanks!

Yes! A lot of places will use something called "soy paper" if you ask. Just ask if you can have the particular roll in soy paper if possible.
Nori(seaweed) is nutritionally amazing (high in iodine and B12) if you ever come around to the flavor/texture!

Yes, ask for soy paper...I can't handle the taste of the seaweed & never get it. There are usually plenty of rolls that are made without it.

I have also had sushi rolled with very thinly peeled long cucumber slices. It was quite good, although not the same as nori of course. But I suppose that is just what you are trying to achieve!

Or just eat sashimi. Naruto rolls are wrapped in cucumber.

Re: For those that eat sushi regularly....
Thank you for asking this! I don't like the seaweed either (I've tried sushi rolls & I've tried the dry kind you snack on) & when I tell people that they think I am just too afraid to try raw fish, but I'm not-I have tried it.
I know there is more to sushi than raw fish, but sashimi is too much raw fish. I like the idea of the rolls, but could never get past the taste of the nori-the cucumber ones sounds delicious!
