Random hot water problem- any ideas?
So around 4:00 my daughter wanted to take a bath and the water barely got lukewarm. I checked the sink and the kitchen sink and same issue- would not get hot. I called DH and he told me to shut the hot water heater, which I did. It is still off. I just put the sink on and it's hot! Any idea why this would happen?

This would happen when our hot water heater started dying. We knew it was going to need replacing Bc our inspection told us it was 5-8 years old, but we were surprised how quickly after we closed that it died.

You could need a new hot water heater. I would check what the temperature is set to on it though. Ours was apparently really cool and when we made it hotter it fixed our problem. Our inspector told DH 10 yrs ago that we were going to need a new hot water heater very soon lol..we still have the same one.

Definitely check the temperature. Ours was set to really low when we first moved in, and they just had to increase it. I think they can also do something where they flush out the rust in the pipes or something like that. I don't know the details but my parents need that done every few years and the water gets super hot again after that.
