Party food help

I'm having a party at pump it up for my son on Saturday. It also happens to be DH's birthday that day so I am having the family and a couple of friends back to the house after the party to celebrate DH's birthday. The party is from 2:15-4:15. We would have pizza around 3:45 then cake. My question is, do I need to serve food like hamburgers hotdogs and chicken after the party? Or can I get away with something like a cheese and crackers platter, some dips and chips and some hot appetizers?

I would say apps and snacks should be fine..If anyone get hungry or hangs out late you can always have some bubba burgers or hotdogs as a back up or even order chinese.

ETA: or you can keep a tray of pasta (baked ziti) or something in the oven and put it out around 7 in case people want something a little heavier.

You need to have food. It will run through dinner time and people will be looking for food.

This is what I'll do thanks! I'll have burgers and dogs as back up and see what people are feeling after a little bit. Ill have about 3 hot apps and chips, dips and veggies. We are also having ice cream cake for DH so I think the apps and snacks will be fine too.

Sorry, but I agree. I think you need to feed people dinner at that time. It can be something simple like hot dogs and hamburgers or order a couple of things from Chinese food.

I'm so going to kill my dh for inviting people ove before talking to me. I had DS's party at a place so I wouldn't have to deal with this.

I agree with all of this. You need food, but takeout is fine. Or, you could make stuff ahead to reheat. Personally, I'd stick with takeout.

I agree with this post , and disagree with the other posts about feeding dinner

If you are eating pizza around 4 ish you are feeding your guests at dinner time.

having a few extra apps and dips is good to be safe.

But she will be having people at her house that were not at the kiddy party. The guests coming from the afternoon party may not be hungry, but the people who are just coming over for her DHs birthday will expect to be fed.

Oh no, everyone will be at the kid party that is coming back to the house. His parents, All our siblings and their spouses and kids and possibly a couple of close friends and their kids. My dh thinks he can just "extend the party" at our house. But all will be at my sons party.

Re: Party food help

I can only speak for myself, but I would consider the pizza more of a late lunch than a dinner. If I was coming to your house after the party, I'd probably want some type of dinner around 7-7:30. I don't think you have to go crazy. Maybe have some apps when everyone arrives and then order in as PPs have suggested.

I still stand by what I wrote. You are feeding everyone around 4 ish. If they come back to your home have apps and easy to eat snacks, nothing that requires large plates etc. This is jmo.

I would not expect to be fed twice.

Re: Party food help

What time do you think people will be at your house until? If you think 8ish, then I would say you should definitely have some sort of "meal" out at some point, not just apps, along the lines of hero, hamburgers/hot dogs or baked ziti. When I go to a kids party, I know many adults don't eat (there's always so much pizza left over from the adults). Especially if they are serving the pizza at 3:45, I don't think any adults at the party will be considering that their dinner. They will be hungry at your house for a meal by 6ish. That's jmho.
