School elections- Question
I'm going to be honest and maybe say something a lot of people are thinking.
I don't have kids. I bought a house in a neighborhood that has excellent schools. Hopefully I will have kids, but I'm guessing it wont happen. But I definitely think the kids should get a good education, they are our future and I am invested in that.
So.
The only think I know about the upcoming election tomorrow is that its happening and they are under the cap.
That's it.
I don't even know if these people run in a "party" (Dem/GOP etc).
Is this election for the budget AND school board?
So I guess my thought and question is this: Besides the OBVIOUS (Voting is your civil duty) why should I vote when I know absolutely nothing about the election?

School elections- Question
You don't have to vote for everything. So if you feel it's important to pass the budget so that there won't have to be cut backs than you can just vote yes for the budget and not vote for any school board members. It's not an all or nothing election. I personally think that it's important to vote whether you have kids or not because either way these kids are our future. So unless it's some kind of ridiculous increase (my district is only at 1% this year) then I see no reason to turn it down. Also if the school district has to make cuts it will become an unappealing district to live in and could decrease the value of your home eventually.

School elections- Question
For the school board elections, DH and I mostly only vote because we know someone who is on the board and running again. Before that, I would vote for the budget because I think it's important to make sure the budget passes (good education for the kids and I think it would negatively effect property values if it didn't pass) even though I don't have kids and even before my SS was a part of my life, but never paid attention to the school board elections

Re: School elections- Question
I am in a similar situation. Good district, no kids.
I have yet to change my license so I am not registered in the town and can't vote but my BF can. He has never before because his mentality is "I don't have kids."
So I went to the district website, did some reading, and then told him to go vote yes and that is it. Not to worry about anything else. I know the School Board Members are important but we just aren't involved or educated enough on each person. Maybe next year.
I just remember in HS every year at this time everyone being stressed about the budget passing. We lived in a district where it could go either way and more than once was voted down the first time around. It was awful thinking something that was important to us as students would be cut.

School elections- Question
You should always vote on the budget, even if you don't have kids, because you still pay school taxes and should have a say on whether the budget passes or not.
Our district usually has the vote for the school budget, the vote for the library budget and any school board seats that are open. They usually mail a flyer about the budget and how the $$ is allocated prior to the budget vote.
