Re: Was This Blizzard Lame or What?

Lame? Well we have about 20 inches of snow on the ground and the roads are only somewhat operational - that's not lame to me AT ALL. Lame is 2 inches of snow - sorry, but your definition of lame is off. But yeah, if lame constitutes my house and power are still intact then yeah ok. But, overall I certainly wouldn't call this lame - the LIRR isn't even operational! So I'm not sure the folks that had to trek to nyc on these roads this morning and night are thinking things are so lame. Nor are the folks that are out there shoveling for hours. I think maybe you need an in between from lame to total destruction Chat Icon

Haha, fair enough. I should change "lame" to "not as catastrophic as predicted". I admit I don't have anywhere to go today, and I do feel for the people that do!

Re: Was This Blizzard Lame or What?

Lame? It took my DH 2 hours to drive 20 mins....and that was after the plows were out all night trying to keep up...we got about 24 inches out east and more where the drifts are. Lame = schools out here are closed tomorrow.

Maybe "lame" if you live in manhattan but this storm did dump a pile of snow just maybe not in your neck of the woods.

Whoever is disappointed in the "lack" of snow can feel free to take as much of the nearly 2 feet I have as they want! Poor DH has been out there all day!

We got 2 feet, drifts are much higher. I was up most of the night, and it was definitely a blizzard. Very windy and really coming down. Happy that I've been plowed out. Had to go out there and raise hell though since I'm always skipped since I live on the dead end. My kids had a blast playing in the snow for HOURS today! Unfortunately there is no school again tomorrow, so our area was definitely harder hit than some.

No, not out east it wasn't. In fact the National Guard is being deployed to help the forks dig out.
Thankfully we never lost power and DD had a blast playing. She's out there again now with DH. 20+" not lame!

We had about ten inches they predicted twelve to eighteen. It still took two hours to dig out the driveway.

It wasn't as much as expected by us but we got a foot. It was enough work for DH. Nice to have him home, eventhough he had to do some work.

Re: Was This Blizzard Lame or What?

I wouldnt say it was historic, but definately not lame. I am in eastern Suffolk and we got about 22 inches with much larger drifts. The side roads by me are still not plowed well and its 7pm. School is closed again tomorrow.

Re: Was This Blizzard Lame or What?

The only reason I think people think it's "lame" is because so much more was expected... but I still think a foot of snow (which is what we got here) is a lot. Enough to be a nuisance for sure. But it got me the day off (my job pretty much never closes for weather) so hey I don't care in the end I'm just glad I got a free day off!

My DH text me the same thing and I couldn't understand it because I was seeing all the FB post from my family in queens. When he finally send me a pic of our street it was such a difference. My brother in law actually had to go in to work today in Nj.

Historic, no. A lot of snow, absolutely. But its winter in NY, we get at least one storm like this per winter. Ive seen worse, a lot worse. Main roads in my town are completely clear and passable, some sides roads can still use some work, but overall, totally drivable. (Mid No Shore Suffolk)

I think the storm 2 years ago- where all the cars were stuck and abandoned- was MUCH worse.
We didn't even see a plow for 3 days.
Yet they talked about this one like it would be a storm that nobody has seen the likes of before in all of history.

Mother nature will do what she pleases and no prediction can be perfect, so I think they make it sound worse for a reason

I think, they talk it up since storm sandy. No one thought Sandy was going to be as bad as it was. Since sandy, people react differently, they run out to gas up their cars etc.

We were hit by Hurricane Sandy and had lost everything so I have to say I appreciate that this storm wasn't what was predicated and I rather them scare us so we are prepared than not have any warning at all.

Re: Was This Blizzard Lame or What?

The reporter on News 4 goes, "to anyone who is saying this blizzard was a BUST - warning: DO NOT say that to Suffolk residents!!" LOL!

SO true!!! We have about 24" of snow :)

I'm so glad it wasn't worse. I'm SO happy we didn't lose power.

Lame? Hardly! There's no shortage of snow where I am. And I'll take lame over historic any day. Chat Icon

We're just grateful it wasn't a wet & heavy snow...especially when I think about my parents (more like my dad) who insists on removing his own snow. Chat Icon
