Having baby teeth extracted
Has anyone DC needed to have their teeth extracted due to bottle rot?
DS is almost 4 and needs to have his two upper front teeth pulled because of decay. We tried to reverse it with the help of some special tooth paste but it didn't work. It got worse and now his dentist said they need to be pulled before the decay starts to cause infection and travels to his permanent teeth.
I just wanted to know how painful it was for your DC? Was it quick? Were they in pain afterwards? Did they have to be sedated? I doubt DS will sit through the procedure with just laughing gas. He barely makes it through an exam with crying.

My 4 yo just had a tooth out. Let me preface by saying he would never sit in the dentist chair by himself - even for a cleaning.
They gave him laughing gas to relax him and Novocain to numb the area. I am not sure if they didn't numb it enough but he felt when they went to pull it. Then they gave more Novocain but at that point he was very upset. So he was pretty much being held down while they pulled the tooth out.
He didn't have any pain afterward but it was definitely a bit traumatic. I figured my son would act that way. He needs to have 4 teeth filled now so we may have to completely sedate him for that :(

Oh I'm sorry your DS had to go through all that.
I'm nervous that they will tell me he will ok with Novacain and then the same thing will happen to my DS. At the same time I don't want to have them sedate him for something that they say takes less than 5 minutes to do.
Ughh I guess I have to see what this dentist says. I scheduled an appointment with a pediatric dentist in a few weeks, since my dentist does not do pediatric extractions.

get a second opinion -my 2 year old banged his tooth and damaged the tooth our dentist is just watching - I have to go in asap if ever gets tender in his gum above or inflamed - but otherwise its grey and will just be a placeholder

The 1st appointment with the pediatric dentist is just a consult. If she feels they need to come out she may do it at that appointment.
They definitely need to be pulled. The decay had pretty much taken over the surface of the teeth and he squirms when I try to brush them. So the damage is done.

My 4.5 year old had a molar extracted July 4th weekend bc of horrible decay. He was sedated bc he had other major work done (he's got horrible baby teeth). The sedation was easy & best option as the laughing gas did nothing for him. He had discomfort the day of but it got better as the day went on. By night time he was fine

This is what we did when my DD hurt her tooth, unfortunately, about a year later it developed an abscess and had to be removed (she was 1 when it happened, 2 when it was pulled).
It was more traumatic for me than it was for her. She sat very well in the dentist chair while they gave her some sweet air. She was a bit fidgety waiting for the dentist to come back in the room every time he walked out (sweet air, wait, novocaine, wait...) but she didn't even flinch when they pulled the tooth (I was holding back sobs and putting on a brave face lol). It came right out.
She didn't start freaking out until we got back in the waiting room and saw a little blood.
I'll warn you now- his lip will probably swell up ALOT from him biting on it. They don't understand numbness and keep testing the area to see if they can feel.
She was pretty miserable for the rest of the day- but was fine the next.
I got used to the missing tooth pretty quickly. She still asks for it back at least once a week, but she's okay with my answer of "It will grow back when you're 5."
The dentist gave us the tooth and we left it for the tooth fairy so she was excited about that.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
ETA: I saw you said you're already seeing the dentist and that's good. I wouldn't recommend the wait and see approach for rot- it's way too easy to get infections and harm the adult teeth, and that's the last thing you want!

My niece had to get her molars filled since she had cavities, around 4 years old. My sister and BIL decided to sedate her.

Thanks - I know I'm the one who is going to be the big old wreck holding back the tears 
I just don't want him to feel any pain or be scared.
I wish we didn't reach this point. DS fights us every time we have to brush his teeth. It is the biggest daily struggle in our household.
We sing songs, try to make it a beat the clock race, make silly voices that his teeth want us to clean them up etc...some times he goes with it, most of the time its a no go.
We let him brush - he just sucks the toothpaste off and gives his front teeth a quick pass over. So we have to do it and it results in him squirming away from us, biting down on the brush, gagging etc. And this happens TWICE a day. 
I haven't even told him that they have to come out. I don't want him thinking about it - because he will. Just hoping that once we do this he realizes what all his resistance to not wanting to brush caused.

Its been one week since AJ had FOUR removed
she's 5
They tried with gas/meds.. she woke up too many times
Went back and they put her out ... gas first then the IV sedation
She was in and out in 15mins. She woke up with stuff to slow the bleeding. She had NO pain at ALL. Just kept spitting up blood (mostly spit with a dash of blood) because her gums were numb and she didn't like the feeling. Few hours later, right as rain!
Personally I brush her teeth and now she even gets flossed.

I'm sorry your dc has to go through this...
My nephew had to get a bunch filled and a bunch pulled when he was going on 5 yrs old. While he was such a trouper for the exam and fillings, he flipped out after the first tooth was pulled (sweet air, novocaine). They had to stop and make a follow up appt where he was put under completely for pulling the rest. That went much much better.
His recovery was great. He was mostly fine by the second day.
