How much school to expect to miss for tonsil/adenoid surgery

My son was suppose to have ear tubes, tonsil and adenoid surgery tomorrow but it has been cancelled. So now we have no choice but to do it during the school year which we were trying to avoid. How long is typical to stay out of school for this procedure?

Oh and the adenoids and tonsils are just being shaved, not completely removed if that makes a difference.

Re: How much school to expect to miss for tonsil/adenoid surgery

DD had hers done last year in the spring at NYU. She had it done on a Saturday afternoon. They told us at that time she could return as early as Monday. She went back on Wednesday. She only stayed out that long because she had a lot of extremely infected fluid behind the adenoids and Sunday night she got a slight fever. 24 hours later on antibiotics she was great. She felt well enough to return on Monday had she not gotten the slight fever.

The first 24 hours were uncomfortable. Then she was great. The full tonsil is much worse than the shaving. DD was sleeping better, no more snoring, headaches were much better. Best decision we ever made. She had been getting sinus infection after infection because her adenoids were enormous.

Ted to add my DD is a baby about pain, whereas her sister has a very high tolerance. So I expected her to take longer to feel better

my son had full removal and was out a week. I would plan for that...could be less, but most people said that was a fair estimate. He had surgery on Fri and was back at school the following friday.

my son had full extraction on a friday. He also had tubes put in and adenoids removed. He was back to school on tuesday (holiday weekend). But he had a very easy recovery.

My friend had her daughters shaved and she was out for a week.

The full removal is much more painful. Our ENT said the full removal is usual 1week recovery versus only 2-3 days for the shaving.
