Airplane Horror- Lots of Help Needed!!
Hello, My husband, 20 month old twins, & I just flew back from Myrtle Beach from a week long vacation and had an awful plane ride. This is the 4th time the twins have flown. They have flown longer than today's 1 1/2 hour flight and have never had any issues.
Today's flight was different because we had them sit on the airplane seat and buckled into a harness. My daughter freaked out and was screaming for 20 minutes but felt like eternity. As soon as she stopped my son started to get fussy. My daughter only stopped screaming once I let her out of the harness and had her in my arms. She immeditaly fell asleep, probobly from screaming her head off. In the past, the twins have flown in their car seats bucked to the airplane seats. The twins are almost 2 years old. How much longer can we have them sit in their car seats on planes for? We are never using the harness again. What do you use? Suggest?

My DS sat in his car seat on flights until he was a little over 3.

Re: Airplane Horror- Lots of Help Needed!!
Sorry! We started flying without car seats at 2.5. Going with car seats is much easier for the flight.

Did you give them a bottle or anything with takeoff? I love the harness, my son climbs all over me with out it. I would try it again. Good luck!

They can fly in their car seats until they outgrow the harness portion. Which will be a couple more years. I believe booster seats aren't allowed but I'm not 100% sure.

We don't use either. We buckle her in with the regular seatbelt for takeoff and landing, and she moves around on the flight. She would never stay in the seat the whole flight. She is 2.5

Wow.. so sorry.
I have never flown with a car seat. I always felt them to be too bulky and the idea of dragging them around annoying. She has always just had her own seat.
But she didn't fly until she was 2. Best of luck..

Us too. We don't use anything for either kids - DD1 is almost 3 and sits in her own seat and DD2 just turned 1 and sits on our lap. We hold them tight during take off and landing.

You can use their carseats as long as you want to, so long as they are using as a harnessed seat and it has an FAA sticker.
Belt positioning boosters are not allowed on a plane as planes do not have a lap/shoulder belt, only a lap belt.
It is much safer to have them in a car seat or a CARES harness on a flight.

We flew last year for the first time they were 2 & 4 and I didn't drag the car seats. They just used the regular seatbelt.
Maybe it's morbid, but I feel like GOD forbid of anything ..........is it really going to matter that how they're strapped into that seat?

It's not a plane crash you have to really worry about. Those are rarely survivable.
A car seat or a CARES harness provides protection if there a hard landing because of things like landing gear malfunction or turbulence.

Re: Airplane Horror- Lots of Help Needed!!
I only used the car seat once when my dc#1 was about 18 months. It was a huge hassle to drag it around and he was trying to get out the entire time, I never used it again. We have flown several times since then, with both kids. DC#2 never used the car seat to fly.

I'm with you.
Turbulence, hard landing etc, I'm fairly sure I'd be hugging my knees or bracing her. Standard turbulence like the one that knocked all those people around recently can happen too. She is strapped in snug and she knows as long as the plane is in the air she can not be unstrapped unless I am holding her hand.
She gets more turbulence riding in the car some days!
