Placenta Position

Hi Girls! I have a question for the BTDT moms or even the ladies that are further along. I am currently 12+ weeks along and we had our NT scan last night. We don't get results until next week at my Dr. appt but my question is this ... at yesterday's scan and the one I had at 9 weeks showed that my placenta was right above my cervix. At my 9 wk appt my Dr. told me not to worry ... that it can move ... to see it's position at my NT scan ... she's not going to classify it as placenta previa just yet.

Did anyone else experience this? Did it eventually move or did it for the most part always stay there? If you were diagnosed with placenta previa, when did that happen?

Thanks everyone Chat Icon

Re: Placenta Position

this is me...i was told from the beginning that i have a low lying placenta. At my 20 week scan it was still low lying and they said 90% of the time it moves as the pregnancy progresses.
I also have done some searches on this, and it seems that most people's does in fact move...

for me, as of 30 weeks, it hasnt moved. my placenta is located right where my previous c-section scar is, so that's probably why mine hasnt moved. And I got the impression that they wouldnt considier it previa unless it does touch/cover the cervix, which at this point mine isnt- hopefully it wont! right now they are just watching it and will continue to watch as i progress on.

Dont worry about it too much at this point, if you do end up with previa, they will know way in advance and take whatever precautions they need to at delivery time.

good luck!

Yes this happened to me with my ds and this pregnancy. I think it's really common to have previa in the beginning. It moved quickly with my ds and it's moving again this time. I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow.

Placenta Position

My BFF was just going thru this. At her anatomy scan (20 weeks) she had placenta previa. She was put on pelvic rest (no sex) and not allowed to exercise as well. she went back after 6 weeks and it had moved up enough that it is no longer considered previa and she is no longer on pelvic/exercise rest.

Re: Placenta Position

At my 12 week scan, I had a low lying placenta. They said I could continue normal activity until my 20 week scan. By 20 weeks, the placenta had moved away from the cervix so it was no longer a concern. I think for *most* people it does move.

Re: Placenta Position

at my 20 week scan they said it was a little closer to the bottom than normal but that it would likely move and to be checked again at 30 weeks and at 30 weeks it had fully moved up and away.

Re: Placenta Position

Most of you are saying that your placenta was "laying low" however, they have showed me twice and it's not low or even nearby the cervix. It's directly on top of my cervix.

They haven't limited me from doing anything - but I've already made the choice myself just to be precautious lol.

I guess I will ask the Dr. on Tuesday when I go how they plan on monitoring it ... bc waiting until my 20 week scan seems so long.

Thanks!!

My placenta was covering my cervix all along.. at 16 weeks they officially diagnosed it as previa.. and it was considered that till week 28 when told me it was low lying.. now at almost 34 weeks it's completely fine..

Re: Placenta Position

I had partial placenta previa with my second child. By 25 weeks pregnant, it had moved up.

Mine was originally covering part of my cervix and then moved up.

Re: Placenta Position

I just went through this as well. At 12wks they told me my placenta was 'marginal'. I was put on light bed rest and pelvic rest by my regular OB. My high risk assured me it would move and was not concerned at all. He said it is normal for it to be lower and it will move up as the uterus grows. Sure enough- at my 16wk my placenta was "way up there" and had completely moved to a safe position.
