Scam phone call....
so, the phone rings from a private caller, we never answer, but it kept calling for a few days. DH picked it up and it was an indian guy saying he sees we are having a problem with our computer, and Microsoft Windows
Jay hung up, and googled it and saw it was a scam, they want you to download some software and give them your info.
We hoped he called back. He called back that night. DH called him an a$$hole and said it is a scam, and just told him how can you see my Windows is having a problem...I have a Mac computer (we really don't) he just said it. They guy hung up.
Just be careful. Apparently this is an old scam, but going around again.

Scam phone call....
My mom got this call and believed them. Thankfully the call got disconnected before she have them any info and called me since DH is her go to IT person. They have you open something in your registry which shows all these errors to convince you of the problem and then they start asking for all of this info.

I got this call as well, I knew it was a scam so I was being a real ***** to the guy. I kept talking like a little kid, he didn't know what to do.

Scam phone call....
my mom got this call awhile ago and yelled at the guy and said...my daughter is a hacker! i know about you people!! LOL then hung up on him.
then finally one day i got the call and told the guy...i've been waiting for you. LOL he ended up hanging up on me!

First of all- how would they be able to "See" you are having a problem with your Windows.
Please.
I could see older people falling for this, but anyone who is even slightly up on computers would know better.
Second of all- I WISH this dude would call me.
I would have SO much fun with him
I'd play dumb and pretend I was doing what he said, oh the possibilities are ENDLESS!

Well....
You can see if computers are infected with certain viruses.
I can see if a computer is hitting my website and trying to exploit me and sending certain signatures which would be indicative of a virus.
I could then trace back that IP to a provider, and that provider could tell me your name and phone. (if they were that stupid.)
I've sent notifications to providers to tell them that a computer on their network is infected and to get them off of the internet.
So - it is possible. Highly unlikely, too much work for someone like this to make any money from it.

Yeah, we got that call and I knew it was a scam so it started quizzing him on my "operating system" and such. He didn't have answers for me. they haven't called back.

I told the guy to take me off the list and stop calling me. I was on my way out and didn't care what he had to say, he replied I hope your computer crashes and hung up on me. I hate these calls!!!

Scam phone call....
They have been calling my parents for months. The first time was right after they bought a new computer. Luckily they called dell and dell confirmed it wasn't them.

That is why I never pick up my home phone or cellphone if I dont know the number. Not sure why anyone does anymore with answering machines and voicemail.

I get this call once a week at least. I have been reporting it to the FCc and they spoof their number so many different ways, I've had to write them all down and keep a file. I stopped answering a long time ago, but they keep coming in, and there's nothing I can do about it.
I am literally ripping my hair out with frustration.

Let it go to voicemail or answering machine. After awhile they will just stop if you dont answer.

Yep I stopped answering awhile ago. They used to spoof the # with a local number to make it look like it was a local call

I feel the same. Unless I know who it is, like friend or family members, I never ever pick up .
If it's legitimately someone who.needs me they can leave a message.

I always answer because I have a lot of doctor appointments, calls from the prescription company, etc. Some of the calls are from out of state and not always the same number.
But I also like to screw with people that are scammers. Depending on my mood, I'll either talk in a different accent, bring the phone over to the toilet and flush it in their ear, talk in "meow" like Super Troopers, make "your mom" jokes, burp in their ear, etc etc.
I miss the days of a good old-fashioned prank call. These scammers give me a platform.

ugh isnt that horrible.
someone took my sisters phone number and caller id used to call people. its horrible. the phone company says theres no way to stop it.
