house hunting online sites?

We are considering to move OOS, to NC and I'd like to search some real estate sites to see what out there? Which do you recommend?

I think it depends on the state/city but I've always liked Redfin as it has a good interface, some decent tools, and the alerts were helpful when I was stalking real estate. Other than that zillow and trulia were the other sites I used regularly.

Re: house hunting online sites?

Just beware that Zillow and Trulia don't update their site information that often or well. I get so many calls and emails from buyers on listings of mine that are either in contract or already sold. And Zestimates are notoriously inaccurate in terms of fair market value.

I think going to the MLS of the area(s) you want to look in would be the way to go, or also searching real estate company websites (www.century21.com and the like). Most real estate company websites have all listings available in the area, not just the listings of their company (there is a reciprocity agreement among brokers that allows companies to publish other companies' listings).

I track where buyer "views" are coming from for my listings, and I also get a lot of traffic from realtor.com, so that seems to be a site that a good number of buyers are using.

Also, if you call up a local real estate company in the area you want to move to and ask to speak to an agent, you can perhaps get information on local sites that would be helpful (or have them sign you up for Listingbook or something similar). It couldn't hurt to get some recommendations from someone in the know!

Are you looking in the Charlotte Area? If so, I like terravistareality.com. It allows you to pick by subdivision, or even by the schools in addition to town.
