Elle Magazine Responds to Backlash Over Melissa McCarthy Cover
This is her response to this:
Melissa McCarthy‘s photo shoot for the cover of the November issue of Elle magazine has caused controversy, but the “Mike & Molly” actress doesn’t quite see what the big deal is.
“[Elle is] a magazine I grew up with and I hadn’t done anything quite like that,” she told omg! Insider. “I was nervous… It was kind of amazing.”
McCarthy, 43, posed for the magazine’s cover, along with Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley, both of whom wore skimpy clothing for their shoots. The more full-figured “Bridesmaids” actress, however, was photographed in a coat, which, her reps have said she picked out.
Critics have slammed the fashion choice, claiming that it sends a negative message.
“Times have changed. Fashion has changed,” former model Cynthia Bailey told “Good Morning America.” ” I just immediately thought, ‘What a missed opportunity to represent all the curvy girls of the world.’”
Elle magazine did not respond to a request for comment.

I love it, I think she looks amazing.
I don't think every woman should rock a bikini. People have very different body types and should dress to accentuate their type. If they had put her in a tight, revealing dress, they would've gotten flack for that, too.
Does she have a whole spread?
ETA: Did they have to put her in a coat? No, but she PICKED it!

I actually don't like the picture. I don't think it looks anything like her.
Couldn't care less about the coat. Not to mention SHE picked it out. People need to just relax. Everything doesn't need to make a statement.

I love the color of the coat. It is the November issue, so I would never think that the cover model was in a coat because she was fat. I thought she was in a coat because it is coat season!
I think she looks great.

I think she looks great.
A skinny model doing a photo shoot for winter coats would do the same thing, the same pose and no one would say boo about it.
There is no need for her to show skin to be cover worthy.
There is beauty in this picture.

I'm old school.  20+ years ago they used models and kept the celebs inside the mag. I just prefer to see models gracing the fashion mag covers, not celebs, of which the majority I don't care for. There are enough mags dedicated solely to celebs. It's nothing specifically against Melissa McCarthy.

yes Fall exactly. agreed with this.
This cover makes sooo much sense. Plus McCarthy exudes Elizabeth Taylor in this shot. I saw the other covers and all were horrendous. None of them did what this cover did - show fashion in an interesting way.Tthey were either a close up on face of Penelope or gym chic looks which made 0 sense and made beautiful accomplished women look dumb.
So ye, not sure why ppl had such issue with this particular cover, they better would been asking why the rest of the models wore so little on the other covers.

I think she looks gorgeous, but more importantly, I think she actually is gorgeous without the photoshopping the magazine obviously did.
However, as we all know, the photoshopping isn't unique to her; they do it to everyone. I have a problem with it, but, again, not specifically because of her-because of everyone.
