Re: Adding dc to insurance
yes, call immediately after birth while in the hospital. Most insurance companies have a very short window to add the child to the insurance. I would call immediately if your child is already born to make sure you did not miss the window. Waiting until the birth certificate may be too late to add the child depending upon the insurance company.

She's not here yet just trying to be ahead of the game lol the insurance is being a pita about answering questions. They said I can't add her before but wo t tell me why so I'm really confused about what I'm waiting for. Then they are giving me crap about adding her to dh insurance and not mine

Adding dc to insurance
Yes, call as soon as you can to add. My insurance company added DD and just had me call back with her social once I knew it.

Re: Adding dc to insurance
Ah ok. You can add a new baby once you get to your hospital room, after l&d. Call them up and say hi, I am x and I just gave birth today. I would like to add my DC name, y, to the insurance. They will then ask you to call them back once you have a social security number/birth certificate.

Re: Adding dc to insurance
You have 30 days to add your child, but it's best to do it ASAP because the hospital will send the bills through as soon as you're discharged. You will have to eventually send the SS info to them, but they know you won't have it at first.

Re: Adding dc to insurance
I agree with everyone else, call right away and you have 30 days. One thing to add, you will need to send proof (ss card and birth certificate). In my case, I did not get the birth certificate in time. So, I called my insurance and they said to get a hospital letter verifying the birth of your child. This will be enough for your child to be covered until you get the documents and submit.
