Breastfed babies (bottle question)

My dd took bottles fine for the most part the first few weeks but she only had like one bottle maybe 2-3 times a week. I had to go back to work last week so the week before we were trying to get her to eat more from a bottle and sometimes she was ok and other times she would scream and refuse it. Now im back to work and sometimes she eats ok and other times she fusses and fusses and barely eats. She's 2 months old and today I fed her at 5:30am and then between then and 4:30pm when I got home, only ate like 4oz. total. Chat Icon And when I got home she was beyond happy and relieved that she could eat from me. I would try to use different bottles but the fact that sometimes she eats it fine makes me think that she could be like that with any kind of bottle (I use drop ins)

Is there anything I can do? Will she get better? Has anyone experienced anything similar

I will tell you what everyone told me, get Dr. Browns bottles. They are closer to nursing.

My DD was able to go back and forth between breast and Dr. Brown's bottles (regular, not wideneck) but we used the premie level nipple instead of the level 1 for the first 8 weeks or so. Level 1 flow was too fast for her even though she was born at 39w.

My DD did great with Born Free bottles.

It's not uncommon for an EBF baby to not eat much all day (if you're away from them), then get up to nurse frequently at night when you're there. She misses you!!

Re: Breastfed babies (bottle question)

Thanks everyone! I ran out and bought dr browns bottles last night. I bought the wide necked ones because it said that breastfed babies prefer that style so hopefully she does!

DD1 used Dr. Browns standard bottles and switched between bottle and breast no problem. DD2 does not like any bottle that we have tried (Dr. Browns, Playtex Nurser and Avent). I just ordered the Lansinoh Momma bottle - it has great reviews, so I am hoping it works for my DD.

They do drink less during the day and nurse more when you are home once you go back to work, but 4 oz is way too little.

Thanks! I will look into that bottle also if she doesn't take to the dr browns. Luckily, I just need her to get through the next week and a half because I am a teacher and off for the summer. However I do want to find a bottle that works well for her so my dh can feed her occasionally and for when I'm back to work again in September.

We got the bottle today and DH said she took it no problem. He had given her a bottle not too long before I got home and it had a little left in it so I gave it to her and she latched just like when she nurses. The nipple feels totally different than any other nipple we tried. I highly recommend trying it - it is by far the closest bottle to nursing I have seen.
