Question for new moms
Had my 38 week appt this morning. I'm due exactly 2 weeks from today. I'm not dilated at all, but the baby's head is dropping and in good position plus my cervix has been thinning. Dr said he won't let me go past 1 week past my due date. If nothing happens by my due date we will discuss induction options.
I know each case is diff but should I be dilated at this point. Even a little? I don't want to be induced and I know that half of inductions lead to c-sections which I would prefer not to have.

Re: Question for new moms
I wasn't dilated at all at my 38 week appt. At my 39 week appt I was a "fingertip" A day before my due date I started having contractions and got to the hospital at 4-5 cm So anything can happen- overnight!

Re: Question for new moms
At my 38 week appt I was 1 cm dilated. At 38 weeks 1 day I started early labor and progressed rather quickly. I gave birth to my son at 38 weeks 3 days.

Question for new moms
I went 13 late but wasn't dilated when I was checked 2 days before finally going into labor. If you don't want to be induced, be firm about it. Of course if there are medical reasons that's one thing but if it's a matter of convenience that's another.

Re: Question for new moms
At my 39 week appt, I wasn't dilated at all. At 40 weeks, I was dilated <1cm. At 40 weeks 1 day, I had DD. No induction required.

Question for new moms
I didnt have an internal before delivery but when I got to the hospital after my water broke at 39w6d I was only 1cm. I had DS 7 hours later without any pitocin or anything. You never know!! Hang in there!

Re: Question for new moms
I started dilating a week after my due date when my contractions started. I had back labor, so the contractions felt like electrocution. It took me awhile to fully dilate. By the time I did, I pushed for over three hours and ds wouldn't come out. Eventually, I got a c-section.

Question for new moms
i wasnt dilated at all...i saw the Dr at 40w3d and we discussed induction bc i had no progress - the baby was in position but high and my cervix was "long and closed". Dr wanted to schedule it for 41w1d but i really wasnt on board with induction if the baby was healthy inside i wanted to wait to 42 weeks - but they were estimating her at 8lb14oz and so didnt want to keep her in much longer in fear that she would be too big for a vbac. we agreed to being induced at 41w1d and if i didnt progress and the baby was still healthy they would send me home and not push it and then try again in a week. well turns out the hospital wasnt free for the date my doctor picked....so we scheduled the induction at 41w4d. i was going for non-stress tests every 2-3 days where they checked cervix length and i had no change. at 41w1d DD decided it was time to come out on her own if you arent comfortable with an induction talk to your doctor about your concerns and see why they wont let you go past 41 weeks (i believe typically they will let you wait to 42 weeks if all is good). good luck

Re: Question for new moms
I had been having contractions for weeks, but I was not dilated until my last appt at 40w 4d.... I was 1-2 cm and was givien a thorough internal that would have sent me to the hospital either way cause it got my contractions going and I was bleeding alot after.
but dr was sending me to be induced either way.
I ended up with a c section anyway... when they took him out he facing sideways, that was why i never got passed 5 cm even on pitocin.

Question for new moms
went in for a 40 week appointment (2 days after my due date, actually) and the dr said i was not dilated or effaced at all.
8 hours later, i was admitted to the hospital
8 hours after that, DS was born.
so as others said, it literally can happen anytime and dilation / effacement has nothing to do with when your DC will be born.

Question for new moms
Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond. Guess I will just wait and see. No matter what I will do what needs to be done for the baby.
Any truth to the walking or sex thing?
