Backyard 1st bday party - Food?
What would you do for food for a backyard 1st birthday party? We are expecting around 60 people. I've never thrown a backyard party so I don't even know where to start. Would you cater trays of food? Make trays? Have someone come and cater? I need help!

We're having heroes catered. It comes with cole slaw and potato salad. Then my mom, sis, and I are making some other salads (pasta, string bean, corn, etc.)
ETA: We're also having chicken fingers and fries for the kids.

i would definitely have a hero and salads and maybe baked ziti, chicken fingers and fries for the kids. it's up to you if you want/have the time to make the food yourself, but i would cater it. we catered DS 1st birthday. so much easier!

I would do burgers, hot dogs, maybe a hero or 2 and then just salads/sides. I think outdoor summer parties scream burgers and dogs! If you don't want to man the grill, you can always hire a company to come in and do it for you so you can enjoy the party.

I think hamburgers and hotdogs too!! Especially for Labor Day weekend, but I don't want DH or FIL manning the grill all day. Do you know if someone will come to grill if I supply the food?

We're doing a BBQ - have someone coming to cook and bring all the food.
We are using Mike Thomas Catering - his prices are SUPER reasonable.

How was it?? My parents are concerned because the price is SO good - they think too good to be true. I think its a Backyard BBQ, how can someone mess that up!?

my friend hires someone to BBQ the food she buys for her daughters party every year! I know she arranges it through D'Alessando's but i am sure you can get someone from elsewhere also!

Re: Backyard 1st bday party - Food?
I did a bunch of put on the table and walk away apps (chips/dip, cheese/crackers, veggies etc) and then I did a bunch of different heroes and salads
I had about 75 and it's just too many to BBQ for, and I didn't want to deal w/ the sternos and worrying about keeping food hot and where to store it and deal w/ leftovers etc etc. - I wanted it laid back and easy ........
I did the same for my 2nd son, but I did his @ Cedar Creek park, so I didn't have a mess in my house either (and I had double the people)

Backyard 1st bday party - Food?
We just did DS's 2nd birthday in my backyard earlier this month. The party was from 3-6 PM, so we did an early dinner- wraps and salads. Before dinner I had chips/dip/veggie platters on the table. Dessert was the cake, fresh fruit, and ice cream for the kids.

We did the BBQ idea for DD's 1st as well. WE used the BBQ KINGS though. I must tell you they were amazing. We didnt have to do a thing. They have different packages to pick from and I thought the price was fair. They also provide drinks and watermelon and ices and stuff

The party will be in Bayside, Queens. Does anyone know if any of the places mentioned will come to Queens?

Backyard 1st bday party - Food?
We are having two bday parties for my DS's 1st bday in August. The family party we are getting 2 heros and salads. Then grilling burgers, dogs and shish kabobs. Dh is going to grill everything all at once after everyone is there and hopefully we'll have plenty so he won't have to be at the grill all day. Then the following weekend we are having a friends party for DS's bday with all our friends and their kids. We'll also celebrate DH's bday so we are going to cater. 2 heros, egg plant parm, a chicken francaise, penne ala vodka and sausage and peppers. Dh wants to be able to hang out with his friends and not worry about havin to grill.

Re: Backyard 1st bday party - Food?
We always have a backyard party., but I think we usually have a few less ppl than you. We have done pizzas, heroes, trays of food. For me, it is too much for me to make the food, be the hostess, etc. I make some desserts .

Backyard 1st bday party - Food?
Thanks for your suggestions ladies. I am going to be 7 months pregnant at the party so I want to do as little work as possible! We are going to get heroes and then possibly hire someone to bbq some hot dogs and burgers.
