Pacifier question

So I was telling my friend I had to get the new size pacifiers for 6 months and up and she said it was basically a marketing gimmick. She said the 0-6 monthis fine just buy new if they are in bad shape. Thoughts???

I don't know about a gimmick but DD never took the bigger ones. I tried and she spit them out. Only took the 0-6 month sized ones...still does at 2

I think they make them to aid in teething. They are much harder and could with stand chewing. We tried once and both kids hated it. Gray uses the Avent 0-6 month at 18 months so stick with what works. Kids get pretty picky about paci's especially if they are for comfort.

Are the 0-6 mos small to the point where she'd be able to get the whole thing in her mouth? I mean, now at 19mos, DD could get one of the little ones in her mouth. Do I think you need to run out and buy them the day she turns 6 months? No, but longer term it's something to consider. Also, what a pp said about the firmer material for teething.

I always bought the bigger size when it was time. Their mouths are small in the beginning and that why the paci is small
I don't think it's good for them to have such a small paci when their mouth is bigger and especially when they have teeth. Even though taking a paci is bad for their teeth all together I think they make them different sizes for an orthodontic reason.
It could be a gimmick but that's my opinion

I found that when I bought the bigger ones, she kept them in her mouth better.

You dont need to. I had them since I bought extras and didnt realize. My one DD wont take them.

I think I changed at a year...I felt 6 mo was too young still for my kids! I think it is whatever the individual child is more comfortable with!

We tried to move to the other ones when DS started putting the whole little soothie from the hospital in his mouth (I think his daycare provider nearly had a heart attack.)
He never liked the harder ones but would occasionally take them. Then his daycare provider got other ones (not sure the brand) and he surprisingly took to those so we switched to Advent ones at home and he was fine.

He wasn't a huge chewer though, so I could see if you have a kid who chews on them a lot, you might want to switch so they don't chew off the tip and swallow it.

My DS still uses the ones from the hospital on the day he was born.

I bought a pack of the bigger ones but he out right denied them.

Now I need to get rid of them (he's 2.5) and thats a whole other issue that is NOT going over well for either of us

Its no gimmick. I've seen a baby choke on small pacifer. They are made larger so they child won't be able to put the whole pacifer in their mouth. The only ones that are the same size are the soothies.

I think it depends on the brand.

for instance, MAM newborn or 0-2 month are small! I am honestly getting concerned DD could get the whole thing in her mouth and choke! Moving up to the 6 month soon (she is 4 months)

Pacifier question

I use the Soothies and I think ones for the older ages are just harder so they can chew on them while they're teething. We got a few beacause even now he likes chewing on them so I figure it might help when his teeth come in.
