Freezing Homemade Baby Food

Just wondering if anyone ever froze their home made baby food in breastmilk bags? I've heard of ice cube trays but I can't seem to find bpa free ones. So my DH suggested breastmilk bags. What are your thoughts?

I'm curious about this too. But would the portions be too big when you go to defrost it? I have a friend that uses the breastmilk bottles that can be frozen for storing her homemade baby food.

That's also a good idea...what I do right now is only put the amount I use in each container, but we are made more food so I don't have any containers left. bc I deforst it over night in the fridge and use it for two days.

i found BPA free icecube trays in the Container Store.

Or you can buy the trays / jars that are specifically made for freezing baby food.

Tovolo silicone ice cube trays are BPA free. we use those and put plastic wrap to cover or a gallon ziplock bag

i tried this only because I had some extras after i stopped pumping and didn't know anyone at the time that was bfing and would take an open pack.

In short, horrible idea for us. They were just infective for purees put directly in them because of the mess and loss of food that i couldn't scrape off the side of the bag. I suppose i could have frozen cubes then slid them into the bag, but with twins, I relied more on giant freezer bags.

Yes, I did and it worked out fine. The key is, when you are ready to use the food, don't pour it out the zip top, cut the bottom corner of the bag and pour it out that way. Otherwise you will make a huge mess and waste food. I did it a few times w/the BM bags b/c it saved on time instead of having to freeze individual cubes. I also found it was much easier on the go. Then I found a filling system that lets you put it in your own pouches just like normal baby food. This was a life saver and well worth the money. Saved even more money by reusing the bags. Just making sure you rins the bags w/really hot water multiple times right after you emptied them and let them air dry before storing them or they will get mildewy. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=15439726

Done it. I actually froze some smoothies in them too. It gets pricey, but beyond that it's probably fine. There are BPA-free tupperware also.

I've never frozen baby food in breast milk bags, but I have frozen soups for DH and I with my leftover bags. They work pretty well actually!

I use the breast milk bags to freeze 2oz portions of prune juice. Whenever she needs it I don't have to run out and buy it fresh.

Get silicone ice cube trays. They're BPA free because they're not made with plastic, and they're heat-safe so you can wash them in the dishwasher. And they're so flexible, so you can pop the froze food out really easily. I got this tray at Bed Bath & Beyond:

When I first started making the food, I thought the OXO tot cubes were the $iht, till I realized that you can't label them.

I pour the food into BPA ice cube trays and then into ziploc bags. I also LOVE the Beaba silicone mold. It really makes a precise 2oz of food. It is awesome.

I also use the BM freezer bags for apple water and pear water (the juice from the fruit as I cook it... I don't add water). I use this juice for making thick purees a little runnier or for sweetening the avocado a little.

I use the oxo sqaures (2 oz and 4oz). I have the tray too, but we outgrew that quickly.
